2021 Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Santa Tresa, DOCG

Red Blend

Made from 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato, the Santa Tresa Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a delicious and rich Sicilian red wine with delightful freshness. The Nero d'Avola is fermented in botti, 15% of which comes from apassimiento grapes giving extra depth and richness.  The Frappato is fermented in stainless steel allowing the telltale freshess of the grape to be retained.  Following fermentation, the two wines are blended and then aged for 12 months in a mixture of french and slavonian oak.  Baked fruits mingle with fig Jam, woodspice, cocao and herbs giving a wine with depth and concentration that is tamed by the freshness of the Frappato.

The Cinquenta Red is a superbly knit blend of estate grown Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking beautifully, this wine has a complex nose of red cherry, boysenberry and minerals. Elegantly rich on the palate, this medium-full bodied red has plenty of dark fruits notes with subtle wisps of cocoa and coffee.  The finish is delicate and marked by elegance and finesse.

This beautiful Douro Tinto from Quinta Nova is completely unoaked and displays bags of clean, unadulterated fruit, minerality from the schist soils and a lovely vein of fresh acidity.  Medium bodied with a wealth of red berry fruit and violet floral notes, the rounded, generous palate is approachable and soft - a characteristic not always found in Douro reds.  The lack of oak allows the natural minerality to shine through and help keep the wine fresh.  Perfect for barbecue meats or pasta with tomato based sauces.

Red Blend

The Reserve du Couvent from Chateau Ksara is a great value, approachable red from Lebanon's oldest winery.  The Gallic influence extends to both Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley, with 40% Syrah being blended with 30% each of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc.  The result is an approachable, medium to full-bodied red that shows dark cherry and blackberry fruit laced with savoury black pepper spice and a soft lik of vanilla.  Charismatic and great value.

2021 Terra Mae Tinta, Stanton & Killeen, Rutherglen

Red Blend

The Terra Mae red blend from Stanton and Killeen is an hommage to Portuguese varieties.  Made from a blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional, this delicious red wine immediately puts one in the mind of Portugal before Australia.  Up front aromas of red berry mix with cedar and cinnamon wood spices. The palate provides a seamless blend of the four Iberian varieties, with notes of plums, cherries and a little milk chocolate on the finish. Soft tannins are balanced with the medium bodied fruit weight on the long finish.

2022 Amato Rosso, Amato Vino, Margaret River

Red Blend

Amato Vino take a very hands-off approach to winemaking, in favour of wild fermentation, minimal intervention during the winemaking process and gentle handling.  Their wines are unfined and unfiltered and represent a different side to Margaret River than one might expect.  The delicious Amato Rosso is made from the unusual blend of Teroldego, Primitivo, Cabernet and Chenin Blanc and is bright and juicy with Maraschino Cherry and Raspberry fruit balanced with delightful, lifted acidity.  Easy going, fresh and almost dangerously drinkable, this wonderful red is a welcome addition to our list and sure to become a staff favourite before too long!

2022 Baramban, Bodegas Alto Monayo, D.O. Campo de Borja

Red Blend

The Baramban from Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a sumptuous blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Tempranillo grown at 550 metres above sea level. The complex nose shows abundant blackberry, currrant and violet aromas, leading to full yet silky palate of layered blackberry, plum and cherry fruit mingling with more floral notes, spice and subtle oak.  The long silky finish is beautifully balanced and hides the 15% abv with aplomb.  This beautiful wine is fermented in open top tanks and spends 7 months in a mixture of French and American oak.

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.

2022 Les Creisses, Domaine des Creisses, IGP Pays l’Herault

Red Blend

The 2022 Les Creisses is an inviting blend of Syrah (30%), Cabernet (30%), Grenache (25%), Mouvedre (5%), Carignan (5%) and Marselan (5%).  Each variety is hand-harvested and vinified seperately before blending and ageing in a mixture of concrete vats and oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. The result is a simply stunning Languedoc red that is enticing, more'ish and a joy to drink.

2022 Pojega Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico Superiore

Red Blend

The Rizzardi Pojega is an utterly delicious example of this style of red wine, showing a wonderful depth of fruit and terrific balance.  Made from a traditional blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone and Merlot the wine shows great concentration of dark and red fruits, but also lovely freshness and a harmonious finish.  The addition of 10% Amarone (which now has to be done by law for Ripasso's) simply adds to the complexity without detracting from the elegant freshness which seems to be the hallmark of the wines from this historic estate.  This is the kind of wine which doesn't disappoint, no matter what your taste.

2022 Pombal de Vesuvio, Qta do Vesuvio, DOC Douro

Red Blend

Quinta do Vesuvio is part of the mighty Symington Family Estate.  The Pombal de Vesuvio has pretty floral aromatics on the nose that  mingle with milk chocolate notes and dark fruits.  The palate is opulent and open with more dark fruits and black cherry characters, clove spice and peppery tannins balanced with fine tannins.  Delicious now but with the abaility to age further in bottle.

This beautiful rosé is fresh and savoury, with plenty of fruit character, flora, some dried herbs from the Garnacha Blanca and a sweet touch.  The finish shows beautiful structure and elegant tannins.  As will all Abel Mendoza's wines, this classy rose shows best with food, so don't be put off by the colour, grab yourself some Oysters or other seafood and get stuck in!

2022 Yantra, Tenuta Sette Cieli, IGT Toscana

Red Blend

A sophisticated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from a mixture of the properties younger vines and also 'off cuts' from their top wines.  Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and the wine is aged for 7 months in tank and a further 3 months in bottle prior to release. There's plenty of blackcurrant and red and dark berry fruits, hints of graphite and a tantalising herbal note.  This delicious red shows a lightness of touch that belies it's complex nose.  Delicious now after a decent decant but with the potential to age for a good 4 - 5 years.

This charming red is a blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc made by the passionate brothers at Domaine du Haut Bourg in the western Loire valley.  Surprisingly deep in the glass for such a cool climate, the nose reveals enticing red fruits with floral notes and an underlying whiffs of green twig/capsicum courtesy of the Cabernet Franc element.  Elegant and fruity on the palate, the tannins are soft and balanced with the acidity that keeps the wine fresh and approachable.  A perfect match for charcuterie boards and roasted vegetables.
