2023 The Age of Grace Viognier, Lismore Estate, Cape South Coast
Viognier
The Age of Grace Viognier is a beautifully balanced, barrel fermented white wine from the cool climate vineyards of the Cape South Coast. Gentle, whole bunch pressing and slow extraction helps maintain the character and quality of the juice. The wine is settled for 48 hours before 70% being racked into seasoned 225 litre French Oak barrels, the remainder into concrete egg for fermentation and ageing 10 months.

Ageing in 500 litre French oak barrels helps add to the wonderful texture without detracting from the impeccably integrated exotic, spicey fruit and lively yet balanced acidity.

Old Vine Grenache, along with newer plantings of Syrah and Mouvedre are perfectly knit by Lukas Van Loggerenberg to give a wine that is elegant and fresh with restrained alcohol levels and wonderful purity of fruit. Jean-Christophe Bott is heir to the family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl tended his vines and made his wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been responsible for Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and he converted the vineyards to be organic in 2000 and then biodynamic in 2002. In the vineyards he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars he oversees the vinification in the most natural and minimalist manner to produce wines with precise varietal character.
