Description

Christoph and his brother Johannes have worked together since 2006 when they left their jobs to take over the family domaine in Saulheim, a little village inland from Oppenheim and the mighty Rhine. The vineyards lie on a mixture of light clay, limestone red sandy loam and in places flint and schist. All vineyard management is now undertaken organically with a move to biodynamic imminent.

“The period of over-oaked German Pinot Noir has been replaced with a more elegant, fresher style. Good value Pinots are hard to find, but this entry-level wine from Thörle is exceptional. It’s focused with refreshing raspberry and damson fruit, and grippy tannins are nicely balanced on a meaty palate”.  Decanter Magazine

Pinot Noir

Domaine Christian Bergeret et Fille is situated in the little village of Nolay approximately 8km west of St Aubin. The 'fille' is Clotilde who joined her father at the domaine in 2000 and has since then taken over from him. Almost the entire production from their estate is sold locally to a loyal list of customers so we are lucky to be able to offer them in the uk.

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.
