Red Blend

The 2024 Secateurs Red Blend by AA Badenhorst has to be amongst the best he's made.  Adi bought a neighbouring farm that he used to buy grapes from but now has pick of the crop for himself.  There's a hgher proportion of Cabernet in this release than usual, adding more cassis and dark fruit flavours to the mineral tinged spice of the Shiraz. Fuller than normal too, but by no means less approachable, with juicy tannins and terrific balance.

Nero d'Avola

The Sensale Nero d'Avola has an intense ruby red colour, with broad and complex aromas of red fruits and red berries on the nose.  The nicely structured palate is rounded and mid weight with lovely clean fruit and good balance on the finish.

2024 Shiraz/Grenache, Hancock & Hancock, McLaren Vale

Red Blend

The Hancock and Hancock Shiraz/Grenache blend is made in a beautifully restrained and supple style.  There's plenty of ripe dark plum fruit, pepper and spice courtesy of the Shiraz with the rose petal perfume and red cherry flavours of Grenache. Well balanced through to the finish, this drinks really well now, but will cellar nicely for 5 years or so.

The Sierra Enmedio Garnacha is packed with juicy, vibrant berry fruit, whiffs of spice and more exotic notes of pomegranate and fresh strawberry.  The palate is generous and fruit led with a little more spice and lovely fresh acidity.  Great for barbeques and roasted meats yet juicy enough to enjoy on it's own.

The Ulula Garnacha/Syrah is a cracking organic red wine that represents excellent value for money. Lovely bright fruits mingle with notes of cocoa and whiffs of toasted oak courtesy of 3 months in barrel.  Complex yet approachable, this is a terrific wine to enjoy with a variety of dishes, or simply on it's own.

Domaine de Fondreche are widely recognised as being one of the best producers in the Ventoux region.  This delightful red is made from younger Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%) and Cinsault (20%) vines yet possesses all the purity of fruit and character that are the hallmarks of the domaine.  Juicy, bright and beautifully knit, this seductive red is a true delight to drink.

‘Campi Raudii’ is one of the ancient latin names for Alto Piemonte, which roughly translates as ‘red fields’ referring to the typical colour of the volcanic soils.  It is fermented and then matured in concrete vats and is intended as a young, approachable expression of Nebbiolo.
