The 1998 Musar Red is an elegant and fragrant Cinsault dominated vintage, mainly due to the cooler conditions. It shows wonderfully developed gamey aromas, is well structured and  has a vein of finely poised acidity running through it.  Medium bodied with great length.  The vintage was, by Lebanese standards, cold, with rainy weather that lasted until June (resulting in late flowering), leading to a summer that was sunny and dry.

Château Grandis became a family run estate in 1857 and the vineyards are made up of a modest 10 hectares which enables the family to maintain the strictest high standards both in the vineyard and the cellar. In 2005 Brice Vergez took over the running of the estate and has continued to practice the techniques of hand harvesting, hand pruning and racking from barrel to barrel.  He also prefers ploughing between the rows of vines rather than the systematic use of herbicides, promoting soil health wherever possible.

The '14 Chasse-Spleen is a wonderfully refined wine which is just starting to hit its stride, although will continue to evolve and drink superbly into the early 2030's.  The nose shows lots of dark fruits along with a fresher blueberry character mixed with black pepper and cedar spice.  The palate shows layers of blackberry fruit and terrific oak integration.  The finish is long and fresh with plenty of depth.

"The 2016 Les Ormes de Pez is a blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 52% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot picked from 28 September until 12 October. It has an impressive bouquet: blackcurrants, boysenberry and crème de cassis, all with very well integrated new oak. There is a lot of panache here, a word perhaps I have not associated with this Saint Estèphe in recent years. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a lovely grainy texture, quite pure with lovely blackberry, melted tar and slightly savory, almost meaty notes. Harmonious right to the end, this is an excellent Les Ormes de Pez that seems to revel in the 2016 vintage. This might be one of the best wines from the estate".

The 2016 vintage of Musar is a deep ruby in colour with high viscosity. Red cherries, plums, carob and figs dominate the nose with a hint of eastern spice. Kirsch and plums follow through to the palate with blackcurrant and chocolate. The tannins are velvety soft and this wine has a lot of depth and fruit concentration with a long finish.

The Finca Moncloa Tinto is a medium- high intensity with cherry red tones and persistent legs, with intense aromas of ripe red/ black fruits such as blackberry, blueberry and plum. It also carries some floral notes and spice such as black pepper, clove, vanilla and balsamic, whihc intensifies in the glasss. As well as this, you will also fine some fine notes of oak. On the palate it is well balanced with good acidity and a slightly sweet entrance. This is a smooth wine with body and long, round tannins.

Bouchon are 4th generation viticultutralists situated in the Maule Valley. Current incumbent Julio Bouchon and his children carry on the family tradition of creating distinctive, terroir-driven wines.  The Granito wines are micro-terroir wines made from old vines which are dry farmed on ancient granite soils.  The roots of the old vines need to dig deep in order to find nutrients which translates into concentrated, complex flavours in the grapes.

The AC Pauillac from the historic Maison Sichel is a declassified claret from one of the top estates in this prestigious appellation, and is made with vines which haven't quite hit the maturity required for the chateau label or do not quite fit the flavour profile.  Nevertheless, it is a delicious example of top notch Pauillac, showing well-intergrated tannins and silky red and dark fruits along with hints of liquorice and classic notes of cigar box. The Yarra Yering Dry Red No.1 is an Aussie classic and comes from a winery that is regarded as one of the country's finest.  The Dry Red No.1 is a Bordeaux style blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 12% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot, all of which are hand harvested, and hand sorted to ensure only the finest berries make the final blend.  The Cabernet is crushed prior to fermentation whilst the other varieties are fermented whole and all are vinified seperately.  The wines are then matured seperately in French Oak (40-50% new), and blended prior to bottling.
