The Tokara Director's Reserve Red displays an appealing red claret colour with an intense core and a ruby rim. The nose shows complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits with hints of dried cranberry, baking spice and graphite. The wine enters the palate with incredible purity and focus. Flavours are those of dark cherries, blackberries and ripe plum skin. A sophisticated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from a mixture of the properties younger vines and also 'off cuts' from their top wines.  Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and the wine is aged for 7 months in tank and a further 3 months in bottle prior to release. There's plenty of blackcurrant and red and dark berry fruits, hints of graphite and a tantalising herbal note.  This delicious red shows a lightness of touch that belies it's complex nose.  Delicious now after a decent decant but with the potential to age for a good 4 - 5 years.
