The Vineyard Selection Cabernet from Klein Zalze is one of those wines that is immediately appealing. This amiable red is made from grapes sourced from vines that are over 30 years old, giving an enticing red wine that is packed with classic blackcurrant fruit with eucalyptus notes mingling with cinnamon spice and gentle oak. Rich and concentrated yet by no means overpowering, this is a finely made wine and demonstrates the tremendous value to be found in South Africa.
Klein Zalze take an environmentally friendly approach that puts vine health at the very heart of their winemaking philosophy. Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac. Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness. Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'. High praise indeed!
