Description
The Monte Antico Toscana Rosso is an accessible ‘baby’ Super Tuscan and has an elegant bouquet of leather, black cherries, liquorice and plums leading to a medium to full-bodied palate with ripe red fruit along with subtle notes of lingering vanilla and violets. The soft tannins have a gorgeous silky texture yet the wine still shows some backbone with perfect integration of acidity and fruit.
Monte Antico was established in the early 1970s and takes their name from the medieval town of the same name located in Maremma, just a short distance from Montalcino towards the sea. The vineyards are within Maremma, close to Scansano as well as Colline Pisane, Coli Fiorentini and a few areas in Chianti Classico. The total vineyard area is around 200 hectares, with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted at different altitudes and in different soils which guarantee sun exposure and early ripening from the more coastal vines, while inland, hillside grapes show important daytime/night-time temperature differences conducive to high quality fruit and acidity
The finest selection of grapes are chosen according to harvest conditions in the individual terroirs and microclimates. This balanced orchestration of geological diversity makes for the wine’s consistent excellence. Depending on vintage, the wine is aged from 12 to 24 months in old Slavonian and mostly 2nd use French oak, with 10% of the French oak being new.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum
Bordeaux Blend
Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac. Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness. Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'. High praise indeed!

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire
Gamay
This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality. A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.
