The Rioja Reserva De La Familia by Luis Canas is a wonderful Rioja that has a beautiful ruby colour. On the nose it shows complex aromas of leather, ripe sweet fruit and herbs over a base of fine oak. The palate is potent and juicy with structure and good tenacity, leading to a complex finish that shows lots of spice and is long and persistent.
In 1970 Luis Cañas changed two hundred years of tradition and became the first winemaker in Rioja Alavesa to bottle his young wine rather than sell it in bulk. This bold move, and his continued pioneering spirit, has cemented the winery’s enviable reputation as one of the most progressive in the region. Sheltered below the watchful Sierra Cantabria, the vineyards are all old, small plots on chalky-clay soils with a dedicated team of vineyard workers carrying out organic practices and a purpose built, fully equipped accommodation block was built for the entire vineyard team in 2006.

Gamay
Château Grange Cochard lies in the heart of the Morgon Appelation on granitic, shaly slopes and has been crafting classic wines from their superbly sited vineyards since the 18th Century. The 'Les Charmes' is one of the favoured 'lieu-dits' of Morgon and winemaking is traditional, with hand harvested fruit fermented carefully in the semi-carbonic maceration method with half being whole bunches and half de-stemmed fruit. The KWV Mentors Orchestra Red wine is a multi-region, modern Bordeaux Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenere that shows an abundance of rich, dark berry fruits, with layers of blueberry, plum and blackcurrant. The palate is balanced with concentrated, sweet dark fruit, hints of pencil lead and a herbal edge. The finish is long and well balanced with nicely integrated oak, suggesting a good few years graceful ageing ahead for this complex red.
