With a staggering 8 years on lees, this terrific Cava Gran reserva has to be one of the best value sparkling wines that we've come across recently.  The wine shows a lovely golden colour in the glass with delicate bubbles.  The floral nose has hints of pear, apple and star anise and leads to a wonderfully balanced and elegant palate.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The Finca Moncloa Tinto is a medium- high intensity with cherry red tones and persistent legs, with intense aromas of ripe red/ black fruits such as blackberry, blueberry and plum. It also carries some floral notes and spice such as black pepper, clove, vanilla and balsamic, whihc intensifies in the glasss. As well as this, you will also fine some fine notes of oak. On the palate it is well balanced with good acidity and a slightly sweet entrance. This is a smooth wine with body and long, round tannins.

The 2016 Rioja Blanco Las Planas from, Real Agrado is a pale golden colour, with the aromas of aniseed tinged oak, balsamic and honey notes. The palate is complex with flavours of peach compote and silky oak notes courtesy of 24 months in a mixture of American and French oak. The velvety palate is soft yet retains plenty of freshness with a fine, elegant and very long finish.

The Roca Grisa, Marco Abella is massively expressive with intense, notes of graphite, plum, blackcurrant and blueberries with coffee and chocolate lurking in the background. Rich, ripe and velvety tannins with a long fresh finish, this wine has plenty going for it now but will continue to age and develop gracefully for several more years. The Roca Grisa (Grey Slate) is a single vineyard wine form Marca Abella's Malolla vineyard and is one of their top wines.

2019 Casa de las Monjas, Clos de Lom, DO Valencia

Monastrell

The Casa Las Monjas from Clos de Lom is made from 60 year old Monastrell (Mouvedre) vines grown organically in the mountains south east of Valencia.  This delicious wine has a great depth and spiciness making it at once immediately appealing, yet capable of ageing further in bottle. Packed with dark fruits, hints of chocolate and spice mingling with herbal notes, this is the maiden release of this very limited wine.  The wine was fermented in stainless steel, following a cold maceration for 10 - 15 days, and was then transferred to French oak barrels for 2 years.  The wine rested for a furtehr year in bottle prior to release.

The CVNE Monopole Classico Rioja Blanco is a truly unique style of white Rioja that was brought back into production in 2014 to celebrate the centenary of the CVNE brand. 100% Viura with a small amount of Manzanilla added to the barrels which adds a saline complexity to the vibrant Viura fruit. Straw yellow in colour with slight golden hints. The complex nose shows scents of pear, apple, white currant and white flowers underpinned by slightly spicy dried fruits. On the palate there is salinity (Manzanilla influence) and an elegant acidity which provide freshness, on the long, thirst quenching finish.

The Sao Expressiu is an intense, concentrated and complex blend of predominantly Garnatxa with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah playing a supporting role.  Red and dark fruits mingle with balsamic notes and herbal undertones.  The palate is full and deep yet remains fresh courtesy of some lovely integrated acidity.  Although approachable after a decent decant and breathing, this terrific wine will continue to age gracefully for years to come.
