Description

The wine shows a wonderful deep cherry red colour in the glass.  The nose is intense and aromatic with ripe dark fruits and elegant notes of balsamic, tobacco, caramel, vanilla and chocolate.  The palate shows a wonderful freshness which hints towards longevity, with soft tannins and an elegant mouthfeel.  Enjoyable now, this wonderful Reserva Rioja will age for years to come.

Decanter Gold Medal Winner – 96 Points

The 2012 vintage in Rioja was rated as ‘Very Good’ by the Rioja control board and Martinez Lacuesta were amazed by the quality of the grapes they got considering the drought conditions earlier in the year.  The Hinia Rioja Reserva is 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and  5% Mazuelo, coming from the bodega’s own vineyards 400-500 metres above sea level in Haro.  Fermentation was in American Oak with a final blend put together in January 2013 before ageing for 36 months in American oak.

Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.
