Description
We are massive fans of the wonderful Priorat red wines from Marco Abella. The Clos Abella is particularly impressive with a strikingly perfumed bouquet, encompassing a myriad of red and dark fruits, fresh flowers, oak spices and liquorice. The complex palate shows black cherry, minerals, spice and chocolate and manages to be both subtle yet dense and harmonious with silky tannins, good balance, and a long, fresh finish.
The 2013 was a memorable vintage for David Marco and his Clos Abella is an outstanding effort. The wine is drinking beautifully now (2026), yet has plenty of graceful ageing ahead of it. This vintage was a Decanter Magazine Platinum Medal winner, scoring 97 points from the expert panel – time in bottle proves that their decision was justified.
The Marco Abella family have been producing wines in the Priorat region since the 15th century, with David Marco returning to the region in the early noughties to breath new life into his ancestral vineyards. Marco Abella owns seven plots located on seven different mountains in the village of Porrera in the renowned wine growing region of Priorat. Clos Abella highlights the terroir of Marco Abella. The influence of the vineyard slate and the particular climate create a true expression of the terroir combined with flavour complexity and mature, balanced fruit.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum
Bordeaux Blend
Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac. Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness. Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'. High praise indeed!
