Tempranillo

The Clos de Lom Tempranillo is a wonderful wine, deep red in colour with youthful purple hues. Intense and complex on the nose with hints of black fruits. The palate is fruit packed with more silky dark fruits and well-integrated ripe tannins. The finish is long and classy, and simply begs for another glass to be poured.

The Campolungo Barbera d'Asti from Cascina Vengore is a deliciously bright and approachable example of the grape.  Packed with intense cherry and blueberry fruit, the wine has an appealing juiciness and pefectly poised acidity.  This unoaked red is a versatile food match and will happily accompany antipasti or a more robust risotto.

You don't see a great deal of red Beaumes de Venise in the UK so we're delighted to have uncovered this luscious red blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) from the quality focussed Cave de Gigondas.  Complex and hugely enjoyable, this lovely medium to full-bodied wine mixes red berry and blueberry fruit, spice and licourice alongside menthol notes.  Enjoy this juicy, unoaked red wine now or over the next 4-5 years.

Deep red with a garnet hue. Aromas reminiscent of black cherries, plums and dry leaves with a hint of green bell pepper are complemented with tertiary notes of chocolate and spice. This Carménère is soft and plump, with supple tannins and good length.

2024 Chinon Les Joueurs, Domaine la Chapelle

The Chinon Joueurs from Domaine la Chapelle's was the first wine to be released from this biodynamic Domaine. The grapes are hand harvested from a mixture of different plots, and then fermented in concrete tank with natural yeasts.  The result is a wine that displays immense purity and freshness, giving hints of typical vegetal notes alongside perfumed dark fruits and a lovely vein of acidity.  Balanced, harmonious and a joy to drink.

2024 Côtes du Rhône ‘Le Temps est Venu’, Stephane Ogier, AOC

Rhone Blend

This lovely Cotes du Rhone is a blend of Stephane Ogier's Rasteau and Cairanne vineyard and displays the typical elegance all his wines posess.  60% Grenache and 40% Syrah make up the blend and provide a medium to full bodied wine that is packed with plummy, herbal tinged fruit and beautifully poised acidity. Although this is approachable now with a decent decant, waiting until 2026/2027 will pay dividends and the wine should drink beautifully through to 2033.

2024 Cotes du Rhone Rouge, Domaine de la Berthete, AC

Rhone Blend

Domaine de la Berthete have made a wonderfully approachable Cotes du Rhone that is packed with the warm, sunny flavours of the pebble strewn vineyards of the Southern Rhone.  50% Grenache and 30% Syrah are blended with a selection of other varieties from vines with an average age of 35 years old.  The result is a tantalising red that shows ripe black fruits, garrigue notes and a waft of spice on the long, satisfying finish.  Not a blockbuster, but packed with flavour, this terrific value red is a great match to roasted red meats.

2024 Kuzubag Kalecik Karasi, Cal Denizli

Beautifully earthy and velvet-smooth Turkish red wine made from Kuzubag, a variety native to Anatolia. The grapes were hand-picked from the high-altitude inland Güney region of Denizli and fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness. The result is a textured wine with plum and ginger flower aromas with red cherry, plum, leather and silky tannins on the palate.

Agricola Marrone's Langhe Nebbiolo Che Vale is a divine, unadulterated expression of the grape.  Made without the use of oak, this wonderful wine shows immense purity and drive, with lots of ripe cherry and small red fruits alongside pretty aromatics of delicate rose and violets.  The palate continues with a vibrant freshness, perky fruit and is well-balanced with fine tannins.

The Lecco Roble is a juicy, approachable red from Ribera del Duero.  Made from younger (15Year Old) vines, this 100% Tempranillo spends 5 months in a mixture of French and American oak barriques.  It is a delicious expression of Ribera del Duero with a lovely balance of freshness and dark fruits with a touch of supportive oak.
