Description

The Campolungo Barbera d’Asti from Cascina Vengore is a deliciously bright and approachable example of the grape.  Packed with intense cherry and blueberry fruit, the wine has an appealing juiciness and pefectly poised acidity.  This unoaked red is a versatile food match and will happily accompany antipasti or a more robust risotto.

Campolungo refers to the wooded, upper parts of the property. The vineyards fall down to the valley floor where cooler air originates and provides perfume and freshness to the wines. Cascina Vengore sits in a natural amphitheatre that used to be a Roman Estate.  Established in 2012 by young vigneron Lucrezia Povero, this fully certified organic estate makes wines with purity, freshness and a true sense of place.  The Cascina Vengore wines have a different style to the terrific value offerings from Cantine Povero (the family estate, and one of our favourite producers), and are well worth exploring.

2024 Cotes Du Rhone, Un Bon Canon

Rhone Blend

The Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone hits the spot every time with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks.  The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles.  The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.

Sangiovese

The Payten and Jones winery in Yarra Valley has never been one to follow the crowd and they specialise in minimal intervention, natural (in a good way), farming and winemaking, that translates into styles which are fruit forward and downright enjoyable.

Vandal Combat Rouge Field Blend.JPG

2022 Gonzo Combat Rouge, Vandal Wine Company

Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.
