2024 Tierhoek Chardonnay, W.O. Piekenierskloof

Chardonnay

The 2024 Tierhoek Chardonnay is made in collaboration with Hamilton Russell winemaker Emul Ross and is the first non Hamilton Russell wine to be made in the cellars (we think).  Produced from 20 year old vines that are starting to show their true potential, this fabulous Chardonnay is fermented in a mixture of seasoned French oak and terracotta eggs, before being transferred into barrel and amphora for ageing.

The Tohu Awatere Sauvignon Blanc is a typically vibrant white wine displaying aromas of passionfruit and citrus zest with notes of fresh herbs and green pepper. 2024 Touraine Sauvignon Blanc, Patrick Vauvy

Sauvignon Blanc

Patrick Vauvy harvests his Touraine Sauvignon grapes later than most other producers in the region which helps to give his wines a little more opulance than some.  This lovely Touraine Sauvignon has attractive aromatics showing some richness of fruit. The nose has an abundance of exotic fruits and just a hint of mint. The palate is fresh and tangy with a moreish finish.

2024 Vallisto Torrontes, Bodegas Lavaque, Salta

Torrontes

The Vallisto Torrontes is a fabulous example of this intriguing and highly aromatic white grape.  Made from 70 year old vines grown between 1700 and 2000 metres above sea level, the Vallisto Torrontes shows the distinctive exotic aromas jasmine, orange blossom and peach on the nose with a lively, zippy palate that is dry and fresh with mouth-watering acidity on the finish.  A lovely aperitif if you can handle the aromatics, but even better with food, especially spicier dishes like Thai curries.

Domaine de Fondreche are widely recognised as being one of the best producers in the Ventoux region.  This delightful red is made from younger Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%) and Cinsault (20%) vines yet possesses all the purity of fruit and character that are the hallmarks of the domaine.  Juicy, bright and beautifully knit, this seductive red is a true delight to drink.

2024 Vermentino di Sardegna Notteri, Cantina Castiadas

Vermentino

The Notteri is a terrific example of Vermentino di Sardegna. Made with free run juice that is fermented at cool temperatures before resting on it's fine lees for 60 days.  The result is a wine which shows an intense nose that is fresh with stone fruit and floral notes.  The palate is soft and dry with more intensity and finishing on a pleasing bitter note.  This elegant white is a terrific wine to be enjoyed with seafood, especially shellfish, and lighter mediterranean starters.

Riesling

The delicious Walt Riesling is medium-bodied, fruity and is made with fully ripened grapes.  It shows lovely flavours of peach and stone fruit, with a hint of apricot. Nicely balanced acidity adds grip on the finish. Great value and hugely popular.

The Proposis White wine is a crisp, thirst-quenching white blend of Assyrtiko and Chardonnay.  The former lending freshness, acidity and structure whilst the Chardonnay adds some richness and aromatics.  This is a terrific example of modern Greek white winemaking.

The Serbal Cabernet Franc is an excellent example of how well this grape variety has settled in Argentina.  Historically used as a blending agent for Malbec, we are seeing an increasing amount of single varietal 'Cab Francs' crossing the Atlantic, and we're delighted to receive them! Medium bodied with tell tale aromatics and notes of green pepper alongside darker fruits, the Serbal Cabernet Franc is a pure joy to drink.

The Beaumont Chenin Blanc is a delicious example of cooler climate Chenin Blanc fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Dry, fresh and delicious!  Although very approachable in it's youth, the Beaumont Chenin, as with many other good South African Chenin Blancs, has teh ability to age for many years.  It's a great value wine to stock up on and see how it develops.

The Entre les Vents Cotes du Rhone Blanc is a wonderfully expressive white wine showing a richly layered nose. The Bric Sassi vineyard enjoys a privileged position in the Gavi growing area. Here the vineyards mostly face due South, and are made up of 40 year old vines. Domaine du Haut Bourg are primarily Muscadet producers based in the Grandlieu appelation south of Nantes.  The brothers Nicholas and Herve also plant a range of other varieties includung Gamay, Sauvignon and Grolleau Gris. The proximity of the Atlantic and also the Lac du Grandlieu to the low lying vineyards allow for an early harvest which helps keep the wines spritely, fresh and characterful.  Terrifically put together, this is a great wine to try if you fancy a change from Sauvignon Blanc, melon, lychee and stone fruit with zippy, fresh acidity on the lively finish.

The Hartenberg  Riesling is planted on clay-rich soils and harvested entirely by hand. With 25% of the grapes showing signs of Botrytis at harvest time, this wine boasts stone fruit aromas, honeyed petrol notes, lanolin and a vibrant acidity. The bouquet displays beautiful elements of chalky,flint and minerally notes.The wine is juicy and opulent on palate entry and then a fine acidity arrives to provide a perfect foil to the inherent fruit “sweetness”. Despite being bone dry,the wine finishes with an appealing sweet/sour character,begging a second taste.
