2020 Chateau Tournefeuille, AC Lalande de Pomerol

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Tournefeuille is a perfectly sited 17 hectare Lalande de Pomerol vineyard a stones throw from some of Pomerols most famous addresses, notably Petrus and Gazin. The clay/gravel soils here produce wines with great intensity and balance.  The agriculture is a 50/50 mix of vineyards under biodynamic conversion with the balance being farmed sustainably with no chemical weed control or insecticide.  Rich with ripe tannins this fabulous wine is approachable in its youth but will age gracefully.

2020 Estela Perinetti Grand Vin, Finca Mangato, Tupungato

Red Blend

The Grand Vin is Estela Perinetti's top wine, produced from vines planted by her father in Tupungato in the 1960's.  As with all Estela's wines, the Grand Vin shows genuinely elegant fruit and seamless integration between both the varietals and oak.  This beautiful wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Malbec, fermented in used 500 litre barrels and aged in French oak for 16 months, 50% of which is new.  There's plenty of red and black fruit in this elegant wine, with bordeaux'esque notes of tobacco and oak.  Medium bodied and very well balanced on the long finish, this terrific red displays Estelas skill at blending and although drinking well now, will age gracefully for years to come.

The Chateau Oumsiyat Grade Reserve is a blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah gronw n the vineyards of Mount Lebanon 1200 metres above sea level.  The big difference between day and night temperatures produces grapes with great aromatic intensity and wonderful balance.  This more'ish red wine is rich and concentrated with ripe red fruits and supportive spice.  Earthy and savoury on the palate with a long, balanced finish.

Red Blend

The Jaspe Rouge is a blend of Syrah (30%), Cinsault (20%), Cabernet (30%) and Carignan (20%) grown in the high altitude vineyards of the Bekaa Valley.  The wine has a wonderful core of red and black fruits supported by hints of spice.  Well-structured yet approachable, this modern Lebanese red has a lovely vein of freshness running through from start to finish.

The grapes for this wonderful Mencia come from the single vineyard (Paraje) of Mata Los Pardos. With an average age of 90 years old, the low yielding vines produce fruit of exceptional quality and complexity.  The wine shows lots of red and black fruits, notably blackberry, plum and cherry with mineral tinged herbal notes and a toasted spice character courtesy of the barrel fermentation and ageing (12 months in 500ltr French oak).  This is a wine that shows wonderful purity of  fruit, a silky texture and a fair bit of understated power to boot!

The Senia Nero d'Avola is a luscious, rich and concentrated red that manages to pack a punch yet retain freshness and vitality. Concentrated dark fruits and spice mingle with eucalyptus notes and balanced acidity to give a hugely enjoyable red wine.  Made with the 'Follature Manuale' method of stirring by hand in open top fermenters (barrels) twice a day providing balance and structure without being too weighty.

2020 Pojega Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore, Magnum

Red Blend

The Rizzardi Pojega is an utterly delicious example of this style of red wine, showing a wonderful depth of fruit and terrific balance.  Made from a traditional blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone and Merlot the wine shows great concentration of dark and red fruits, but also lovely freshness and a harmonious finish.  The addition of 10% Amarone (which now has to be done by law for Ripasso's) simply adds to the complexity without detracting from the elegant freshness which seems to be the hallmark of the wines from this historic estate.  This is the kind of wine which doesn't disappoint, no matter what your taste.

2020 Rioja Reserva Vina Ardanza, La Rioja Alta, DOCa

Tempranillo

A blend of over 30 year old Tempranillo (80%) grown on steep high altitude clay-limestone soils in La Cuesta (Fuenmayor) and Montecillo (Cenicero), and 17 year old Garnacha (20%) grown at 550 metres above sea-level in deep pebble-rich terrains in La Pedriza (Tudelilla-Rioja Oriental). The grapes are cluster selected and hand-harvested before being optically sorted before fermentation which lasts 17 days, followed by a natural malolactic fermentation. The Tempranillo is aged for 36 months and the Garnacha for 30 months in seasoned American oak barrels made in their own cooperage. They are traditionally racked by candlelight 5 times before being bottled.

2021 Alion, Tempos Vega Sicilia, D.O. Ribera del Duero

Tempranillo

The vintage released in 2025 is the 2021 Alión, a year to remember, one of the best in recent times; it was relaxed and textbook in all senses, with snow in the beginning of the year, a mild spring disturbed only by frost in Pesquera that didn't affect other villages, a relatively cool summer that slowed things down, and the grapes ripened to perfection without rain after September. They used grapes from 13 different villages throughout the Ribera del Duero, 130 hectares. The grapes are cooled down for 24 hours, and once destemmed, they are put in the oak and stainless steel vats, where they undergo a five-day cold soak and then native fermentation through a "pied de cuve." It has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.81 and 4.8 grams of acidity (tartaric). It's very fresh and fruit-driven, with the balance and elegance of the cooler years, a little austere, with very elegant and polished tannins and a different quality, when the grapes ripen slowly. They believe 2024 has the potential to be like 2021, after the 2022 and 2023 vintages were a lot more challenging. It was bottled in June 2023. Drink 2025-2040.

This is a simply wonderful Barolo from Agricola Marrone.  Complex and well-structured, as one would expect, but also incredibly charming.  This deeply coloured red wine shows raspberry, wild strawberry and macerated cherry fruit, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg spice along with complex tobacco, vanilla and leather.  This finish is long and finely balanced.

The Benegas Single Vineyard Malbec comes from one of the most sought after plots in Mendoza and is a striking example of the grape. Powerful and concentrated on the hand, yet elegant with true poise on the other.  The pretty nose shows bags of fruit but also a tantalising floral edge that entices you to a very luscious palate showing carefully balanced oak and lifted freshness.  Delicious now, but even better after a few years in bottle.

The Block 1 Malbec shows the typical elegance and concentration of Mauricio Lorca.  Made from densely planted vines grown at 1250 metres above sea level, the grapes are hand-harvested and aged in a mixture of French (90%) and American (10%) Oak.  Quite simply, this is a beautiful Malbec that is fruit forward and aromatic with hints of spice on the nose. The palate is juicy, rounded and very, very drinkable.

Cabernet Franc

The Butussi Cabernet Franc has a fabuous, expressive nose of dark fruits and typical Cab Franc vegetal/herbaceous notes.  The palate is full with fine grained tannins beautifully integrated with rich blackcurrant fruit notes and fresh acidity from the high altitude vineyards.  This delicious wine is great for drinking now but wil continue to age gracefully for a few years to come.

2021 Casa de las Monjas, Clos de Lom, DO Valencia

Monastrell

The Casa Las Monjas from Clos de Lom is made from 60 year old Monastrell (Mouvedre) vines grown organically in the mountains south east of Valencia.  This delicious wine has a great depth and spiciness making it at once immediately appealing, yet capable of ageing further in bottle. Packed with dark fruits, hints of chocolate and spice mingling with herbal notes, this is the maiden release of this very limited wine.  The wine was fermented in stainless steel, following a cold maceration for 10 - 15 days, and was then transferred to French oak barrels for 2 years.  The wine rested for a further year in bottle prior to release.

2021 Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Santa Tresa, DOCG

Red Blend

Made from 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato, the Santa Tresa Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a delicious and rich Sicilian red wine with delightful freshness. The Nero d'Avola is fermented in botti, 15% of which comes from apassimiento grapes giving extra depth and richness.  The Frappato is fermented in stainless steel allowing the telltale freshess of the grape to be retained.  Following fermentation, the two wines are blended and then aged for 12 months in a mixture of french and slavonian oak.  Baked fruits mingle with fig Jam, woodspice, cocao and herbs giving a wine with depth and concentration that is tamed by the freshness of the Frappato.

Rhone Blend

Chateau Unang is a small, 15 hectare certified Organic estate that makes classic southern Rhone wines.  Grenache, Syrah, Mouvedre and Cairgnan make up the blend and deliver a mid-weight, dark fruited red wine with herbal notes and typical garrigue flavours.  Mellow, concentrated and impeccably balanced, this wonderful wine has a lovely balance of elegance and structure on the finish, and delivers a lot of bang for your buck.

The Cinquenta Red is a superbly knit blend of estate grown Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking beautifully, this wine has a complex nose of red cherry, boysenberry and minerals. Elegantly rich on the palate, this medium-full bodied red has plenty of dark fruits notes with subtle wisps of cocoa and coffee.  The finish is delicate and marked by elegance and finesse.
