Description

The Butussi Cabernet Franc has a fabuous, expressive nose of dark fruits and typical Cab Franc vegetal/herbaceous notes.  The palate is full with fine grained tannins beautifully integrated with rich blackcurrant fruit notes and fresh acidity from the high altitude vineyards.  This delicious wine is great for drinking now but wil continue to age gracefully for a few years to come.

The grapes are destemmed before being transferred to a traditional 60HL oak barrel for the fermentation. Manual punch downs take place throughout fermentation. After pressing the wine is left to settle for a day before being returned to the oak barrel for 12 months, then 6 months in cement and 6 months in bottle minimum.

Valentino Butussi and his son quickly recognised the potential of the Prà di Corte valley in Friuli Colli Orientali D.O.C. zone, and in 1910 they planted the first vines. In the 1970s Valentino’s son, Angelo Butussi, increased the area of the estate planted to vines and also produced the first bottles under the company name. Remaining a family affair, towards the end of the 1990s Angelo’s four children – Filippo, Tobia, Mattia and their sister Erika – joined the company. They all agreed that the quest for quality depends above all on the health of the vineyard and of the environment that surrounds I, so they started on their journey to organic viticulture with a small vineyard in 2002. This led gradually to the total conversion of the estate in 2008, and to its acquiring organic certification in 2013.

Bordeaux Blend

The KWV Mentors Orchestra Red wine is a multi-region, modern Bordeaux Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenere that shows an abundance of rich, dark berry fruits, with layers of blueberry, plum and blackcurrant.  The palate is balanced with concentrated, sweet dark fruit, hints of pencil lead and a herbal edge.  The finish is long and well balanced with nicely integrated oak, suggesting a good few years graceful ageing ahead for this complex red.

2020 ‘O Font’ Les Deux Cols, Vin de France

Grenache Blend

Les Deux Cols is a joint venture between Ireland's leading Rhone importer, Simon Tyrell and Charles Derain, one time Sommelier to Alain Ducasse at Le Louis XV in Paris.  This Grenache Noir dominated blend is whole bunch and foot trodden, natural yeast fermented in concrete tanks and then matured in a mixture of old barriques and larger demi-muid barrels.  Pale in the glass, this is fresh and easy with red fruits and a hint of spice.  Hand harvesting takes place at least a week earlier than the neighbouring properties allowing for a fresher style, and all vineyards are either organic or in conversion with some biodynamic practices in use.
