Description
The Senia Nero d’Avola is a luscious, rich and concentrated red that manages to pack a punch yet retain freshness and vitality. Concentrated dark fruits and spice mingle with eucalyptus notes and balanced acidity to give a hugely enjoyable red wine. Made with the ‘Follature Manuale’ method of stirring by hand in open top fermenters (barrels) twice a day providing balance and structure without being too weighty.
The vision at at Agricola Cortese is to produce wine in the most traditional and natural way possible so that it reflects the true character of the estate’s terroir and its grape varieties. Experimentation with ancient wine-making techniques such as fermentation in terracotta, alonside utilising modern technology and traditional techniques allows Cortese to extract every nuance of their terroir in their wines.

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality. A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.
