The winemaking philosophy at Abel Mendoza is to express the purity of the fruit and the high altitude terroir in which it grows.  His wines are not overly oaked or extracted, instead they are understated and classy.  The Jarrarte Blanco is an intriguing old vine blend of 33% Viura, 33% Tempranillo Blanco with the remainder being made up of Torrontes, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasia.  All vineyard work is carried out organically and the harvest is manual, keeping the fruit in the best possible condition when it arrives in the winery.

When Joseph Bou Sleiman took over the reins at Château Oumsiyat, he blended respect for local tradition with modern techniques to craft contemporary wines. Dry, fresh and delicious!  Although very approachable in it's youth, the Beaumont Chenin, as with many other good South African Chenin Blancs, has teh ability to age for many years.  It's a great value wine to stock up on and see how it develops.

Godello

This terrific Godello from Bodegas y Vinedos Merayo is great value. Delicate and pale yellow in the glass with an intense nose of green apple and stone fruit and traces of citrus and fennel. Minerality lends the wine a further degree of complexity. The palate is generous and rounded, without ever losing the sensation of freshness with notes of citrus, green apple, and minerality. The texture from lees ageing is apparent in the lovely mouthfeel, enveloping the wine and giving it a rich, slightly sweet feeling of overall harmony.
