This Grenache Noir from Nadal Hainault is utterly delightful.  The pretty pale ruby colour hints at a wine that is light, but it's by no means a weed.  Softly textured in the mouth with bright red fruits and lovely balanced freshness on the finish. The eminently quaffable red wine is made with minimal intervention and no added sulphur.  It displays a beautiful lightness and delicacy and could easily take a bit of chilling down in the summer months.

2023 Julienas ‘Bois de la Salle’, Cave Julienas-Chaintre

Gamay

The grapes for this medium weight, fruit led Julienas are hand harvested and left in tank for 10 days to macerate in order to optimise the colour and aroma of the wine. Fermentation takes place at a warm 27/28 degrees centigrade and maturation follows until March when the wine is bottled.An intense, purple colour. Fruity aromas dominated by fragrant raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. Round, supple and rich yet balanced by a lingering freshness on the finish.

2023 Maury Sec Cuvee 1+1=3, Clos des Vins d’Amour

Red Blend

The Maury 1 1=3 Cuvee is made from a blend of 60% Grenache. 20% Carignan and 20% Syrah, all old vines grown on a mixture of clay, schist and limestone.  The Syrah and Grenache are destemmed prior to fermentation whilst the Carignan is whole bunch fermented.  Deeply coloured in the glass, this lovely red is soft and approachable on the palate, showing elegant red and black fruits and hints of peppery spice, and silky tannins on the finish. The name is a playful nod to the Dornier family's sets of triplets.

2023 Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru, Domaine Meunier

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.

2023 Meursault, Domaine du Pavillon, Albert Bichot

The Domaine du Pavillon Meursault comes from an esteemed estate owned by historic Burgundy Negociant Albert Bichot.  This tremendous wine is classic Meursault,  elegant and supremely silky initially, with white flowers and subtle toasty oak on the nose.  The palate is rich and generous with an impeccable balance of freshness and fruit.  Long and silky on the finish, this wonderful wine is one to be savoured. Sourced from three distinct vineyard parcels in the heart of Meursault, this Chardonnay is grown on calcareous clay soils containing white marls. The estate's 3.30-hectare holding is planted with vines averaging 35 to 40 years of age. The differing soil depths, slope characteristics and terroirs of the individual plots contribute layers of richness, complexity and minerality to the finished wine.The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before gentle pressing to preserve fruit purity and vineyard expression. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by extended ageing on fine lees, allowing the wine to develop greater texture, complexity and aromatic depth while retaining freshness and balance. Matured on fine lees in French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, with 20% to 30% new oak. This ageing regime contributes subtle toast, texture and complexity while maintaining the elegance and character of the Meursault terroir.Located south of Pommard, Domaine du Pavillon is Albert Bichot’s flagship Côte de Beaune estate. The Domaine covers 19.5 hectares, with vineyards across some of the Côte de Beaune’s most renowned appellations, including Meursault, Pommard, Volnay, Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, with holdings in some of the region’s finest vineyard sites. The estate itself includes vineyards, a winery, cellars and an 18th-century manor surrounded by walls. Organic viticulture is practised throughout the estate, while the winery was modernised in 2016, allowing individual parcels to be vinified separately and with greater precision.Founded in 1831, Albert Bichot is an independent, family-owned House now managed by the sixth generation, Albéric Bichot. Based in Montlouis, Francois Chidaine makes beguiling wines from Chenin Blanc and is largely regarded as the producer who put Montlouis 'back on the map'.  The Clos du Breuil is made from a single parcel of low-yielding vines grown biodynamically on flinty/clay soils.  Grapes are harvested by hand, with a spontaneous fermentation in large, old demi-muid oak barrels.  The wine is then lees aged, without batonnage, for several months.

Jean-Christophe Bott is heir to the family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl tended his vines and made his wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been responsible for Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and he converted the vineyards to be organic in 2000 and then biodynamic in 2002.  In the vineyards he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars he oversees the vinification in the most natural and minimalist manner to produce wines with precise varietal character.

Domaine de la Bretonniere have been making wine in the Loire for generations.  With an utmost respect for the environment and meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard they are able to produce vibrant, crisp wines with lovely pure fruit and crisp, balanced acidity.  The Cap A l'Ouest Sauvignon is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris and has a bright, pale yellow appearance with golden reflections. The intense bouquet of flowers and lychee follow through to the generous palate that manages to be powerful and fruit-forward whilst retaining freshness and zip with long lasting acidity.
