Description

Based in Montlouis, Francois Chidaine makes beguiling wines from Chenin Blanc and is largely regarded as the producer who put Montlouis ‘back on the map’.  The Clos du Breuil is made from a single parcel of low-yielding vines grown biodynamically on flinty/clay soils.  Grapes are harvested by hand, with a spontaneous fermentation in large, old demi-muid oak barrels.  The wine is then lees aged, without batonnage, for several months.

The complex nose shows notes of fresh pear and apple alongside floral honeysuckle and more exotic lemongrass. The beautifully weighted palate is clean and precise with quince, peach and grapefruit zest and mouth-watering acidity.  The finish is long and saline with mineral notes showing finesse and an understated power.

2022 Mont-Sur-Rolle Grand Cru, Maison Blanche, AOC La Cote

Chasselas

This is a delicious, more'ish white made mainly from Chasselas, the grape variety which is typical to the Canton of Vaud. Yves and Antoine de Mestral like to play around with it, making wine several different styles, of which this was our favourite.  Quite classic in style for Chasselas with a lovely balance of the creamy, fruity, floral and mineral palate. Rich and complex, this is a perfect wine to sip on its own, enjoy with fish and seafood.

Morgon Cochard Cote de Py.JPG

2022 Morgon Cote du Py, Domaine Grange Cochard

Gamay

The Morgon Cote du Py is a wonderful example of hand crafted Cru Beaujolais from the prestigious Cote du Py plateau.  Made with organically grown, hand harvested grapes from a mixture of Granite and blue stone soils, the wine is made in the traditional semi-carbonic method with 2/3rds of the bunches being de-stemmed and 1/3rd left whole.  The wine is matured in a mixture of cask and old barrels and bottled with minimal sulphur without fining.  The result is a wonderfully complex wine that is expressive yet elegant and finely balanced.  Dark fruits and kirsch like characters mingle with dried herbs, liquorice and mineral undertones along with finely poised acidity which helps the wine remain focussed.  Delicious in it's youth, the Cote du Py also shows great ageing potential in the medium term and will continue to develop in complexity.

2025 Pinot Noir Rose ‘Pink Colomb Bay’, Dom. La Colombette

Pinot Noir

The Pink Colomb Bay is consistently one of our best selling roses, this more'ish wine is wonderfully textured, with soft red fruits, a creamy texture in the mid-palate and then finishing dry.  The wonderful wines of the pioneering Domaine Colombette are characterised by the ability to be full flavoured and expressive whilst being refreshingly light in alcohol.
