The Terra Mae red blend from Stanton and Killeen is an hommage to Portuguese varieties.  Made from a blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional, this delicious red wine immediately puts one in the mind of Portugal before Australia.  Up front aromas of red berry mix with cedar and cinnamon wood spices. The palate provides a seamless blend of the four Iberian varieties, with notes of plums, cherries and a little milk chocolate on the finish. Soft tannins are balanced with the medium bodied fruit weight on the long finish.

The Tokara Director's Reserve Red displays an appealing red claret colour with an intense core and a ruby rim. The nose shows complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits with hints of dried cranberry, baking spice and graphite. The wine enters the palate with incredible purity and focus. Flavours are those of dark cherries, blackberries and ripe plum skin. The Di Meno is made with predominantly Catarratto plus a smattering of other indigenous Italian grape varieties.  It is a deliciously refreshing, minimal intervention white which shows citrus and tropical fruit notes.  There is some skin contact involved which gives a thirst quenching edge and some added depth and texture but none of the funkiness often assosciated with orange wines.

2022 ‘Les Chirats’ Syrah/Viognier, Aurelien Chirat, VDF

Syrah Blend

The Les Chirats Syrah/Viognier is a wonderfully floral and elegant blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier from vineyards around Saint Joseph.  The practice of adding a small proportion of Viognier to Syrah is common in Cote Rotie and helps to add softness and aromatics to the Syrah from this part of the Northern Rhone.  This wonderfully friendly and approachable red wine is fermented on Condrieu lees which gives the wine even more aromatics. Enticing blue and black fruits on the nose are joined on the palate by more savoury leathery notes and hints of peppery spice.  The mineral-tinged finish is finely poised showing evidence of the granite soils.

2022 Baramban, Bodegas Alto Monayo, D.O. Campo de Borja

Red Blend

The Baramban from Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a sumptuous blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Tempranillo grown at 550 metres above sea level. The complex nose shows abundant blackberry, currrant and violet aromas, leading to full yet silky palate of layered blackberry, plum and cherry fruit mingling with more floral notes, spice and subtle oak.  The long silky finish is beautifully balanced and hides the 15% abv with aplomb.  This beautiful wine is fermented in open top tanks and spends 7 months in a mixture of French and American oak.

Barbaresco DOCG is produced every year from the 100 hectares of vineyards controlled by the Produttori within the appellation, mainly in the Barbaresco village itself. In the best vintages, when the quality of the grapes is great everywhere, the historical crus are vinified separately and Barbaresco is then produced with the grapes from the remaining vineyards.
