Description
The Liberator Francophile Syrah is a partial whole bunch ferment which gives a wine that is full of vibrant red-black fruit, with an aromatic nose reminiscent of Saint-Joseph lillie. The result is a thrilling young red that is free of the constraints and manipulated flavour profile that come with barrel-ageing. This is a very pure and naked example of the Syrah grape. Dangerously drinkable on release, it could be expected to age for three to five years in bottle.
The Liberator wines are the brainchild of English Master of Wine Richard Kelley (the self styled ‘Liberator’), who has a multitude of amazing contacts in the South African wine industry. On his travels Rik noticed that many of the wineries he visited had small parcels or barrels of wine that they weren’t quite sure what to do with, either because they didn’t fit the wineries flavour profiles or they were little side projects that the winemaker had embarked on and didn’t know where to place the wines. Rik took it upon himself to ‘Liberate’ the wines and produce a series of limited Episodes to ship to the UK. The prjoect has been such a success that they now produce a non-limited edition Syrah made at De Morgezon winery.

2020 Chateau Saransot Dupre, Cru Bourgeois Superieurlistrac
Bordeaux Blend
Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac. Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness. Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'. High praise indeed!
