2025 Grolleau Gris, Domaine du Haut Bourg, Val du Loire

Grolleau Gris

Domaine du Haut Bourg are primarily Muscadet producers based in the Grandlieu appelation south of Nantes.  The brothers Nicholas and Herve also plant a range of other varieties includung Gamay, Sauvignon and Grolleau Gris. The proximity of the Atlantic and also the Lac du Grandlieu to the low lying vineyards allow for an early harvest which helps keep the wines spritely, fresh and characterful.  Terrifically put together, this is a great wine to try if you fancy a change from Sauvignon Blanc, melon, lychee and stone fruit with zippy, fresh acidity on the lively finish.

2025 Hunting Hill Chardonnay, Kumeu River

Chardonnay

Hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed, with fermentation taking place with indigenous yeast. 100% of the Hunting Hill is barrel fermented, with 25% new French Oak.  All of the wine goes through malo-lactic fermentation and spends 11 months maturing in barrel.

2025 Komokabras Albarino Verde, Vino Tierra Barbanza e Iria

Albarino/Alvarinho

Produced in tiny quantities, the Komokabras is made with 50 year old Albarino grown in high altitude vineyards on green granitic soils.  Once pressed, the must is seperated into two 600 litre stainless steel vats, one of which undergoes malolactic fermentation off it's lees, whilst the other remains on it's lees but does not go through malolactic fermentation.  The two vats are blended in the early summer following vintage and spend a little time on cork prior to release.    This delightful Albarino is fresh with enticing aromatics on the nose showing floral notes, peach and citrus.  The palate is beautifully poised with crisp acidity and a thirst quenching salinity on the finish. .

This wonderful blend of Muscat, Muscadelle, Gewurztraminer, Viognier and Riesling from the south-west of France has to be a one of a kind.  The Baie Orientale from Lionel Osmin is a winemaking triumph, balancing aromatic complexity and freshness with aplomb.  This intriguing wine displays varietal characters of rose petal, lychee and melon alongside superbly balanced acidity, making it an ideal match to spicier dishes.

2025 Mate’s Vineyard Chardonnay, Kumeu River

In 1990, Maté Brajkovich reworked the land and planted a new vineyard of Chardonnay vines on the site of the original vineyard that he and his family purchased in March 1944. The first grapes from this vineyard were harvested in March 1993, the year following Maté's death. The resulting wine was released in November 1994 to coincide with celebrations marking the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Brajkovich Family's arrival at Kumeu River.

Virgen de Lorea have been growing the classic Txacoli grapes for over 300 years but have only recently started bottling their own production, and were the first winery to go under the DO Bizkaiko Txacolina.  The results are electric! This delicious, zingy Txacoli has a months lees ageing to give a tiny bit of added texture to the ripe citrus and green apple fruit. Zingy, refreshing and very easy to drink.

Sanchez Romate are a small'ish sized Bodega that produce wonderfully complex sherries that are xcellent examples of their type.  The Cardenal Cisneros PX is an amazing, naturally sweet wine which has a fantastic, deep mahogany colour and typically rich and velvety texture.  The intense palate and nose has an abundance of figs, dried fruit and raisins alongside chocolate and coffee.  The wine is dense and unctuous yet posesses a really clean and balanced vein of acidity that keeps it fresh on the amazingly long finish.

Sitting a mere 20km from the Atlantic, the Cabana das Bolboretas is a boutique vineyard that benefits from the cooling influence of the ocean.  This surprising sparkling wine is made from 100% Albarino harvested in 2015 and is made by he traditional method with a second fermentation in bottle.  The wine spends 26 months onlees and is classified as Extra Brut with 3-6 g/l of residual sugar.
