The 1999 Privado Anada is a great value, fully mature Tempranillo from Valladolid. The wine still has plenty of fruit along with leather, spice and balsamic notes and decent degree of freshness too. Please note that the corks on some of these bottles can be very delicate so it is best to use a Butler's Thief style opener.

2000 Tokaji Aszu Essencia ‘Imperium’, Chateau Dereszla
We are delighted to be one of the very few UK merchants to get our hands on this sensational Tokaji Aszu Essencia from Dereszla. Only produced in the very finest years, (made twice by Dereszla in the last 22 years), and now a defunct classification, this is a very rare slice of history in a bottle. Incredibly sweet yet with perfectly poised acidity, the wine has a complex apricot and seville orange marmalade fruit character mingled with spice and gingerbread notes. With an impressive 252 grams per litre of sugar it is no wonder the wine is syrupy and very rich, but the constant freshness provided by the acidity keeps the wine balanced and makes it a wonderful match to dark chocolate desserts, good quality cheeseboards and rich pates.

The '14 Chasse-Spleen is a wonderfully refined wine which is just starting to hit its stride, although will continue to evolve and drink superbly into the early 2030's. Ca dei Maghi is a small yet perfectly formed winery in the hills which focusses on quality over quantity. The Amarone Riserva Canova is a stunning, and very classic style Amarone made in the traditional way with grapes which are dried in huts over the winter. Following fermetation the wine spends 60 months ageing in barrel providing beautifully integrated wood, spice and fruit. This decadent Amarone is rich and warming with the typical plum, cherry and choclate characteristics one would expect on the wonderfully silky palate. The finish is very long and warming - one for those long winter evenings!

2016 Chateau Les Ormes de Pez, AC St. Estephe

"The 2016 Les Ormes de Pez is a blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 52% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot picked from 28 September until 12 October. It has an impressive bouquet: blackcurrants, boysenberry and crème de cassis, all with very well integrated new oak. There is a lot of panache here, a word perhaps I have not associated with this Saint Estèphe in recent years. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a lovely grainy texture, quite pure with lovely blackberry, melted tar and slightly savory, almost meaty notes. Harmonious right to the end, this is an excellent Les Ormes de Pez that seems to revel in the 2016 vintage. This might be one of the best wines from the estate".

This tiny property of 1.3 hectares has seven parcels spread throughout the Pomerol appellation, positioned between Clos René, Château Trotanoy, Château Nénin, and also next to Château Le Pin…Château Feytit-Guillot really benefits from these wonderful plots on the plateau. The vines have an average age of forty years and are always entirely hand-picked before a traditional fermentation and then aged in oak barrels for 14 months.

Gilles Remoriquet is forever looking for ways to improve the wines from his 12.5 hectare sustainably farmed domaine. Whether that means a dedicated trip the Jura to see a specialist about selecting the right blend of manure, or investing in a second sorting table which eliminates under-ripe berries by flotation, he is not one to rest on his laurels. Cuvaisons in concrete vats are long, giving a light colour yet concentrated with elegant fruit flavours. Wines are fermented with natural yeasts and never see more than 30% new oak, allowing the fruit to shine through.
