Château Grandis became a family run estate in 1857 and the vineyards are made up of a modest 10 hectares which enables the family to maintain the strictest high standards both in the vineyard and the cellar. In 2005 Brice Vergez took over the running of the estate and has continued to practice the techniques of hand harvesting, hand pruning and racking from barrel to barrel.  He also prefers ploughing between the rows of vines rather than the systematic use of herbicides, promoting soil health wherever possible.

Marsanne

Tahbilk are a Carbon Neutral winery and legendary producers of Marsanne, not just in Australia but worldwide.  Their plantings of this beguiling grape variety are the world's largest single holding, some of which were planted in 1927 and rank as some of the oldest around.  The Museum Release Marsanne has an expressive nose of honeysuckle and hot buttered toast.  The palate is rich, nutty and honeyed yet has a vibrant citrus freshness on the finish.  This is a true 'terroir wine' which sings of the unique climate in this part of Victoria and shows wonderful varietal character.   This Marsanne is delicious now but will continue to develop in complexity up to 2026.

The KWV Mentors Orchestra Red wine is a multi-region, modern Bordeaux Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenere that shows an abundance of rich, dark berry fruits, with layers of blueberry, plum and blackcurrant.  The palate is balanced with concentrated, sweet dark fruit, hints of pencil lead and a herbal edge.  The finish is long and well balanced with nicely integrated oak, suggesting a good few years graceful ageing ahead for this complex red.

Great value Pinot Noir isn't usually associated with California so we were over the moon to discover this beauty from Pavette in Napa.  This is a wonderfully easy drinking Pinot with ripe red cranberry, raspberry and cherry fruits, a touch of smokiness and lovely creamy texture.  Ageing takes place in a mixture of stainless steel (80%) and French oak (20%) for 10 months prior to bottling.

The Prinos Syrah from Diamantakis is a youthful purple with red hints in the glass. On the nose this Syrah is fresh and aromatic with a bouquet of black pepper and blackberries, followed by scents of violet typical of the variety. The Introvert Chardonnay is made with a mix of Russian River (60%) and Napa Valley (40%) grapes.  The wine goes through full malolactic fermentation and sees up to 30% new oak, the remainder being a mix of old and neutral barrels.  The result is an incredibly easy drinking Chardonnay that is creamy and rounded with ripe stone fruit characters and balanced fresh acidity.

The Isabel Pinot Gris displays tasntalising aromas of red apple and pear, with subtle ginger spice, and stone fruit and baked apple tart on the palate. Extended lees ageing leads to a wonderfully creamy, textured body; there is a rich complexity here which will also develop nicely in bottle.
