2023 Tempranillo, Clos de Lom, Valencia

Tempranillo

The Clos de Lom Tempranillo is a wonderful wine, deep red in colour with youthful purple hues. Intense and complex on the nose with hints of black fruits. The palate is fruit packed with more silky dark fruits and well-integrated ripe tannins. The finish is long and classy, and simply begs for another glass to be poured.

Jean-Christophe Bott is heir to the family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl tended his vines and made his wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been responsible for Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and he converted the vineyards to be organic in 2000 and then biodynamic in 2002.  In the vineyards he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars he oversees the vinification in the most natural and minimalist manner to produce wines with precise varietal character.

Domaine de la Bretonniere have been making wine in the Loire for generations.  With an utmost respect for the environment and meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard they are able to produce vibrant, crisp wines with lovely pure fruit and crisp, balanced acidity.  The Cap A l'Ouest Sauvignon is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris and has a bright, pale yellow appearance with golden reflections. The intense bouquet of flowers and lychee follow through to the generous palate that manages to be powerful and fruit-forward whilst retaining freshness and zip with long lasting acidity.

Domaine Alexandre is a family business handed down over three generations. Brothers Guy and Olivier run the estate today, which is set over 13 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Chablis. 2024 Pavette Pinot Noir, California

Pinot Noir

Great value Pinot Noir isn't usually associated with California so we were over the moon to discover this beauty from Pavette in Napa.  This is a wonderfully easy drinking Pinot with ripe red cranberry, raspberry and cherry fruits, a touch of smokiness and lovely creamy texture.  Ageing takes place in a mixture of stainless steel (80%) and French oak (20%) for 10 months prior to bottling.

The Bric Sassi vineyard enjoys a privileged position in the Gavi growing area. Here the vineyards mostly face due South, and are made up of 40 year old vines. The Barbadillo Finos are more Manzanilla-like in style, but are aged in Bodegas with less exposure to the cooling sea breezes. The flor in the barrels grows vigorously in these cellars so the wine is a little more nutty and toasty than the more appley and yeasty Manzanillas of Sanlucar.
