Description

Germar Breton are a relatively young Champagne House that started in 2005.  Based in the southerly Aube region, they make approachable, terrific value wines solely from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, eschewing the use of Pinot Meunier as they believe that it brings a harshness ot the final wine.

The 2014 vintage is 100% Chardonnay and spends 6 years on it’s lees and has a mere 3 grams per litre dosage, putting it firmly in the Extra Brut category.  As with all their wines, this is amazing value and drinks beautfully.  The wonderful balance of richness and crisp, fresh acidity keeps one coming back for glass after glass.

NV Cuvee de Reserve, Champagne Gallimard, Half Bottle

Champagne Blend

Didier Gallimard owns 10 hectares of prime vineyards on the steep slopes around Les Riceys in the southern Aube. Didier’s son Arnaud has joined him, becoming the seventh generation, and the long-term future is now secure. Their vines’ average age is over 30 years and the dramatically sloping vineyards, which are of chalk and Kimmeridgian limestone, are planted mainly to Pinot Noir and just a little Chardonnay. Their wines are full and rich and offer enticing aromas and flavours of summer fruits.

Lete Vautrain Brut 204.JPG

NV Brut 204, Champagne Lete Vautrain, Marne

Champagne Blend

The grapes for the Lete Vautrain Brut 204 are harvested by hand and sorted prior to fermentation at a cool temperature, and ageing on lees takes place for a minimum of 36 months.  The wine shows a lovely deep golden hue in the glass with apple, peach and apricot fruit complemented by dried fruits and classic biscuity notes.  A well balanced, complex and rounded Champagne that is the perfect aperitif style.

Rue de Sorbier Levasseur.JPG

NV Brut Nature Rue De Sorbier, Champagne A. Levasseur,A Cuchery

Champagne Blend

This is another beautful Champagne from the Levasseur stable and show what you can achieve by honing in on terroir and acute attention to detail in both the vineyard and winery.  80% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 5% Chardonnay from the oldest plots in the vineyard, this wine has a healthy 30% Reserve wine in the blend.  Stunning value again (see Noir de Terroir), with quite exotic fruit content, a dry, mineral backbone and clean, crisp finish.  This wine spends 4 years ageing on it's lees which helps add to the roundness, depth and complexity and is way beyond the minimum required in the region.

Taittinger Brut Reserve.JPG

NV Brut Reserve, Champagne Taittinger, Reims

Champagne Blend

The Taittinger Brut Réserve is renowned for its golden yellow colour with a consistent, fine, lingering mousse. The nose is light and delicate with hints of fruits and brioche. The palate is lean, but has considerable depth and elegance with a long fresh finish. There is no specific drinking occasion for the Brut Réserve. Its elegance and lightness give it the flexibility to be the Champagne for the moment but it is always an excellent aperitif.
