Description

The Coal Pit Pinot Noir has dark cherry aromatics with savoury cocoa undertones, underpinned with delicate notes of dried herbs. Structured tannins extend the length of the palate, and point towards the ability to age for this wine. An elegant yet powerful Pinot Noir, where depth of sweet cherry fruit and tannin abound, balanced with the delightful acidity that the Coal Pit site is known for.

Coal Pit Vineyard covers 12 hectares of land in the heart of Gibbston. The vineyard is planted with 7 hectares of Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc vines that date back to 1994, some of the oldest in Gibbston.

The Coal Pit vineyard is planted on glacially formed schist based soils, with a mix of clones for added complexity and balance. Coal Pit typically yields intensely aromatic wines with strong minerality and is run in accordance with the proactive environmental management programme, Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. Coal Pit are also one of the few single vineyards in Gibbston where the grapes are grown, handpicked and crafted into wines on site and is currently undergoing conversion to biodynamic viticulture and will be fully certified by 2023.

2016 Les Charmes de Kirwan, Chateau Kirwan, AC Margaux

Bordeaux Blend

Les Charmes de Kirwan is the second wine of 3rd Growth Château Margaux and, like it's more grown up sybling, has benefitted from the massive investment program in both the winery and the vineyard in recent years.  It is generally made with the younger vines on the property but receives exactly the same care and attention as the wine.

2020 Morgon Les Charmes, Chateau Grange Cochard

Gamay

Château Grange Cochard lies in the heart of the Morgon Appelation on granitic, shaly slopes and has been crafting classic wines from their superbly sited vineyards since the 18th Century.   The 'Les Charmes' is one of the favoured 'lieu-dits' of Morgon and winemaking is traditional, with hand harvested fruit fermented carefully in the semi-carbonic maceration method with half being whole bunches and half de-stemmed fruit.  Maturation is in a mixture of vat and cask and sulphur addition low.

2014 Ch Saint Pierre.JPG

2014 Chateau Saint-Pierre, 4ieme Cru Classe St.Julien

Bordeaux Blend

The 2014 vintage of this 'under the radar' Chateau is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.  Chateau Saint-Pierre is the smallest classed growth in Saint Julien but has a growing reputation for producing excellent, deeply coloured reds.  It is part of the Chateau Gloria stable and often eclipses it's more illustrious stablemate in blind tastings.  Prices are creeping up as their reputation grows but these beautifully made wines still represent good value.
