2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Epineuil, Domaine Fournillon

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir Epineuil from Domaine Fournillon is a beautifully fresh Pinot with bright, red fruit flavours and supple tannins. This delightful red wine comes from parcels of vines in the village of Epineuil, with the majority of Pinot Noir grapes are harvested mechanically for efficiency so they can be transported to the estate for maceration in stainless steel tank for a period of 2 weeks, with regular punch downs. After separating the skins from the juice it is aged in stainless steel tanks for a minimum of 15 months.

Pinot Noir

The Cote d'Or AC is the newest appellation in Burgundy and this tremendous Pinot Noir from Jadot is just delicious.  Concentrated with silky red and dark fruits, good structure and a savoury note to the finish.  This isn't too juicy and a great food wine, especially with grilled or roasted red meats and a variety of cheeses.

The Volpaia Chianti Classico shows wodnerful purity of fruit and is a very elegant, balanced wine.  The complex nose shows fresh cherry and strawberry fruit with typically earthy nose and whiffs of spice.  The palate is open with elegant, silky fruit and herbal notes mingling with a delicate floral character and perfectly poised tannins. The Corryton Burge Shiraz is a rich, soft and subtle Australian Shiraz showing deep ruby red with purple hues.  The nose has plenty of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla aromas. Richly fruited on the palate with forward characters of raspberry and plum alongside a soft toasty oak influence that enhances the vanilla and spice. Subtle tannins leave the palate quite moreish and a delight to keep coming back to.

The Cotes Du Rhone Rouge 'Cuvee Bonheur' from  Dom. La Loyanne is a typical Rhone blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah and shows complex dark fruits with garrigue notes on the nose along side the odd whiff of violets.  The delicious and more'ish palate is rich and concentrated showing great depth and elegance through to the balanced finish.  Like all the wines from Loyanne, this is such as joy to drink and provides superb value for money.

The Defesa Tinto is an inviting blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah coming from young'ish vines planted on Granite and Schist soils.  The wine is open and immediately enjoyable with a mass of spice-tinged, black fruit aromas which follow on to a rounded, fruit filled palate that is rich and creamy.  The well balanced finish is softly textured, supple and long.

The Growers Touch Durif by Mino And Co reveals a nose that is bursting with sweet berry fruits such as Mulberry and Blueberry backed up by vanillin tinged oak and coconut with hints of spice. The Le General from Lanzerac, one of the oldest farms in Stellenbosch, is a rich, full-bodied Cabernet-based blend with a pronounced nose of vanilla and nutmeg spice leading to a flood of dark berries, cooked plums and blackcurrants on the palate. The long, complex finish shows dark chocolate and hints of smoke supported by sturdy yet smooth tannins.
