Chateau Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Medoc and is owned by the Sichel family, 6th generation Bordeaux Negociants and part owners of Chateau Palmer.  The wines from Angludet come from vineyards which are all classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and are consistently excellent.  The superb 2010 comes hot on the heels of the terrific 2009 and although expressive and open now, it will continue to develop very nicely.

Chenin Blanc

We have a soft spot for the incredible Chenin Blancs from Baumard and gems such as this truly spectacular wine highlight the quality of winemaking at this Domaine.  Baumard eschew traditional trellising methods for this part of the Loire and have also flown in the face of tradition by switching excluisively to screwcaps for their range.  The Quarts de Chaume vineyard enjoys a superb terroir and a unique situation producing wines of rare elegance.  This remarkable wine is wonderfuly textured and manages to comine power and clarity alongside richness and precision. Complex with floral bouquets and notes of citrus and orchard fruit with impeccable acidity, this is a wine to savour.

This second wine of Chateau Angludet is a perfectly mature claret that shows the elegance and finesse of it's more grown up sibling at a fraction of the price.  Silky, red and dark fruits abound with notes of cedar and liquorice sitting alongside well-integrated spice and oak.  Medium-bodied and approachable now, there is still enough structure to suggest further ageing would be possible.

We were delighted to be offered a little library stock of older Pinot Gris from Moorooduc Estate.  This is such a wonderful wine, showing great development and compexity.  The exotic nose leads to a rich yet balanced palate that is dry and satisfying with a lovely balance of weight and texture. The balanced finish is long and tinged with citrus and green pear fruit.

The Laborie Blanc De Blancs Methode Cap Classique is complex and indulgent showing aromas of green apple and citrus. Hints of lime are accompanied by aromas of toasted bread and hazelnut. The palate is creamy, round and textured with an explosive acidity and lasting, elegant finish. This stunning sparkling wine is a regular award winner and once tasted it's not difficult to see why.  Superb value for money.

The Cranswick Shiraz is hugely popular wine for us. The accent is on spices with focused fruit, dark berries with earthy aromas. The Corryton Burge Shiraz is a rich, soft and subtle Australian Shiraz showing deep ruby red with purple hues.  The nose has plenty of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla aromas. Richly fruited on the palate with forward characters of raspberry and plum alongside a soft toasty oak influence that enhances the vanilla and spice. Subtle tannins leave the palate quite moreish and a delight to keep coming back to.

2023 Elyssium Black Muscat, Quady Winery

Andrew Quady's change of career from making fireworks to making wine produced an explosion of its own kind when he created Essensia from the Orange Muscat grape. It was an instant success and until 1985 he could not make enough to satisfy demand. Now Quady is the foremost American winery specialising entirely in dessert wines and continues to win medals worldwide.The grapes were crushed, chilled and allowed to macerate, in order to extract the desired aromas and flavours. Fermentation was arrested with a neutral grape brandy. This arrested fermentation preserved the delicate aromas of the fresh, ripe grapes. The wine was then aged for three months in small French oak barrels. Elysium is a brilliant crimson purple colour with aromas of ripe berries, rose petals,strawberries and lychees. The vibrant acidity balances beautifully with the sweetness of this wine, making it very refreshing.

Mencia

Can do Sil is a wonderfully fresh, fruit led blend of Garnacha and Mencia produced from lightly macerated fruit from young vines. The ferment is made in stainless steel and the wine bottled after the spring equinox. It is a lightfooted, violet and blackberry infused wine with elements of mineral coolness. A refreshingly breezy and bright Spanish red with notes of sour cherry, raspberry, violets and sweet spice. It's unoaked and very drinkable.

Our house Cava shows small, subtle bubbles and an enticing pale yellow colour. On the nose it is fresh, balanced and fruity with floral notes and touches of honey mingled with white peach and gentle autolytic tones. The palate is rich and elegant with opulent flavours of white peach, citrus with a slightly bitter finish. A perfectly balanced wine which exhibits a remarkable presence and persistence.
