The 2016 Pinot Gris, Moorooduc Estate is pale gold with aromas of fresh pear, quince and lemongrass. The mid palate is dry and satisfying with a lovely balance of weight and texture leading to a long citrus and green pear fruit tinged finish.
Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc is a small, family run wine business that has built an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines.
The philosophy here is to use top quality fruit that is produced by intensive, hands on work in the vineyard and minimal use of chemicals. The wines are then fermented using wild yeasts and minimal intervention to allow them to express the character of their individual sites. Moorooduc is rightly regarded as one of the leading lights in Mornington and one of the finest Pinot Noir producers in Australia.
Hand-harvested with whole bunch pressing, this delightful Pinot Gris is 100% barrel fermented in 2-3 year old French oak and then matured for 10 months on lees in the wood with 1 racking prior to bottling having been lightly fined and filtered.
