2021 Orange Kisi, Tiko Estate, Kakheti

Kisi

The Orange Kisi from Tiko Estate in Eastern Georgia is a traditionally made Orange wine with fermentation taking place on skins in clay Qvevri.  The wine remains on it's skins for 6 months following the fermentation and as a result shows incredible concentration and a beautiful weight balanced with aromatic, ripe stone fruit characters, notably apricot and peach.  There is some tannic structure too making this a superb match to both eastern mediterranean cuisine (take note Ottolenghi fans), and also spicier Asian dishes.

2021 Petali Liatiko, Diamantakis, Crete

Liatiko

The Petali Liatiko from Diamantakis is a pale red colour with cherry highlights. Aromas of raisins, caramel, fig, red-black fruits like strawberry, plum blackberry, which are followed by scents of spice like cinnamon and clove. Medium-bodied with lovely fresh acidity and tannins, give a juicy and pleasant finish.  A great match to traditional Greek dishes.

2021 Pourquoi Faire Sans Blanc?, Domaine Serol, Vin de France

Chenin Blanc

Following a disastrous harvest in France many producers looked for parcels of fruit which they could make wine from in order to have something to sell from the 2021 vintage.  Domaine Serol have a small vineyard of Chenin Blanc grapes on the highest part of their estate, grown on granite soils.  This is a deliciously refreshing white with a core of ripe honeyed, citrus fruit that is just starting to open up.  The finish is super clean with thirst quenching acidity on the long balanced finish.  Drinking beautifully now, especially with food, this will continue to develop for a few years from vintage.

The Terra Mae red blend from Stanton and Killeen is an hommage to Portuguese varieties.  Made from a blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional, this delicious red wine immediately puts one in the mind of Portugal before Australia.  Up front aromas of red berry mix with cedar and cinnamon wood spices. The palate provides a seamless blend of the four Iberian varieties, with notes of plums, cherries and a little milk chocolate on the finish. The Tokara Director's Reserve Red displays an appealing red claret colour with an intense core and a ruby rim. The Weissburgunder Fels Reserve from Waldschutz is 100% Pinot Blanc and an absolute delight to drink.  Unoaked yet with a decent degree of richness, the wine has floral notes to the nose, a rounded palate that balances textured fruit with richer notes of caramel and hazlenuts.  The finish is long and impeccably balanced.  This accomplished white is delicious now but has great ageing potential.
