Picpoul

The Montagnac cellar was created in 1937 and has grown with vineyards stretching over 7 communes all along the Thau lake in the mountainous foothills of Hérault. Around 2,000 hectares are vinified on 2 different sites, a major part of which is located on clay-limestone soils with some pockets of marl as well. The climate is Mediterranean, dry and hot during summer, but more temperate due to it's proximity to the sea.

The ever popular Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rose has a short period on the skins to create a beautiful pale salmon pink colour, the juice is run off and fermented at a cool temperature in stainless steel.  The wine is a beautiful balance of generous juicy red fruits, hints of mineral undertones and crisp, thirst quenching acidity. This is one to be filed in the 'Dangerously Drinkable' category.

2024 Rioja ‘Solar de Estraunza’, Rioja Alavesa

The Solar de Estraunza Rioja is a plush, youthful and rounded Rioja made form old Tempranillo vines.  20% Carbonic Maceration and 80 % destemming with a controlled fermentation in stainless steel gives a mightily approachable wine showing vibrant red fruits, liquourice hints and pretty floral notes. Delicious in its youth, enjoy this plump red on it's own or with lighter red meat dishes.

The Rioja Blanco Fermentado en Barrica from the amazing Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta is a pale greenish yellow colour with a touch of toasted oak over mellow fresh fruit on the nose. In the mouth, it is initially fresh, with the well integrated oak building in prominence in the mid-palate. The floral fruit character carries through to the well-balanced finish.

Georgia is considered to be the ‘cradle of wine', as 8,000 year-old indigenous Rkatsiteli grape seeds have been found in clay vessels. Vachnadziani was established in 1953and is one of the oldest wineries in Georgia. With over 1,000 hectares of vineyard, covering the Kakheti region in eastern Georgia and the Imereti, Racha and Lechkhumi regions in western Georgia, Vachnadziani cultivates 25 vine varieties - the majority of which are indigenous. 2024 Secateurs Red Blend, AA Badenhorst, Swartland

Red Blend

The 2024 Secateurs Red Blend by AA Badenhorst has to be amongst the best he's made.  Adi bought a neighbouring farm that he used to buy grapes from but now has pick of the crop for himself.  There's a hgher proportion of Cabernet in this release than usual, adding more cassis and dark fruit flavours to the mineral tinged spice of the Shiraz. Fuller than normal too, but by no means less approachable, with juicy tannins and terrific balance.

The Serbal Cabernet Franc is an excellent example of how well this grape variety has settled in Argentina.  Historically used as a blending agent for Malbec, we are seeing an increasing amount of single varietal 'Cab Francs' crossing the Atlantic, and we're delighted to receive them! Medium bodied with tell tale aromatics and notes of green pepper alongside darker fruits, the Serbal Cabernet Franc is a pure joy to drink.

The Kloovenburg Village Red is a juicy, approachable blend of 59% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 14% Garnacha Peluda and 5% Mouvedre made by the talented Duncan Stuart.  Slight hints of oak compliment the bramble, strawberry and white pepper notes.  Terrific value, this is a must try for any Rhone Ranger looking to dip their toes in the sea of South African wines.

The Wolftrap White has a nose that is bold, intense, and rich with stone fruit aromas of peach, nectarine and yellow plum as well as gentle whiffs of angelica, spice, and fresh ginger. The palate is focused and balanced, with yellow apple flavours, honeydew melon, papaya, poached pear and hints of dragon fruit and lime adding to its complexity.  Medium-bodied, elegant, and vibrant with zesty yet integrated acidity, this cracking value white is clean and dry on the mid-palate, with notes of crisp green apple and tangerine lingering on a refreshing finish.

Patrick Vauvy harvests his Touraine Sauvignon grapes later than most other producers in the region which helps to give his wines a little more opulance than some.  This lovely Touraine Sauvignon has attractive aromatics showing some richness of fruit. The nose has an abundance of exotic fruits and just a hint of mint. The palate is fresh and tangy with a moreish finish.
