Description
The Carte d’Or Coteaux du Layon from Baumard has a very attractive honeyed nose, with lifted yellow fruits and more golden tropical elements such as mango, guava and pineapple. It has a particularly tropical character and a very fresh feel on the palate, with steely minerality and a zippy background acidity giving invigorating tartness to keep the wine luscious and buoyant. The rounded, approachable finish has good length.
We are big fans of the wines from Baumard and with some of them ranking as some of the very best available from this part of the Loire they are priced accordingly! Thankfully, the terrific Carte d’Or is extremely well-priced and offers a wonderful introduction into both the wines of the region and the Baumard style in general.

Soft tannins and the marked acidity make this charming little wine a very versatile wine when it comes to food matching.

NV Brut, Champagne Germar Breton, Aube
Champagne Blend
This delightful, and rather smart looking, Champagne comes from the relatively young Champagne House of Germar Breton that was established in 2005. Based in the southerly Aube region, they make approachable, terrific value wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This wonderful introduction to their range shows expressive brioche, green apple and quince fruit and has wonderfully balanced acidity. Germar Breton are certainly a Champagne House to keep an eye on.
