2024 Odulin Friulano, DOC Friuli

Friulano

The Odulin Friulano is made with hand harvested grapes that are treated with the utmost care to preserve their delicacy.  The grapes are gently de-stemmed and undergo a soft pressing prior to a cool, 10 - 12 day fermentation in stainless steel followed by lees ageing with part of the blend being aged in old barriques for 4 months.  Herbal and floral notes mingle with orange blossom and exotic fruits on the soft and elegant palate, showing hints of spice along with fresh, balanced acidity.

The Petali Assyrtiko is a superb example of the grape. Cool fermented in stainless steel then aged on fine lees for 3 months prior to bottling.  The result is a wine which is impeccably balanced, showing zippy citrus and stone fruit flavours, mineral undertones and telltale saline freshness.  This is an ultra-refreshing and hugely enjoyable wine that suits a variety of mediterranean dishes.

Domaine Christelle Greffet is a small, traditional estate situated in Solutre-Pouilly and is worked by hand by the 4th generation.  This beautiful Pouilly Fuisse sees a traditional fermentation and ageing in oak Tuns.  The oak imparts texture as opposed to inherently oaky characteristics, resulting in a wonderful Burgundy with some depth and richness alongside the flinty freshness and notes of honey.

The Solar de Estraunza Rioja is a plush, youthful and rounded Rioja made form old Tempranillo vines.  20% Carbonic Maceration and 80 % destemming with a controlled fermentation in stainless steel gives a mightily approachable wine showing vibrant red fruits, liquourice hints and pretty floral notes. Vachnadziani was established in 1953and is one of the oldest wineries in Georgia. The Serbal Cabernet Franc is an excellent example of how well this grape variety has settled in Argentina.  Historically used as a blending agent for Malbec, we are seeing an increasing amount of single varietal 'Cab Francs' crossing the Atlantic, and we're delighted to receive them! Medium bodied with tell tale aromatics and notes of green pepper alongside darker fruits, the Serbal Cabernet Franc is a pure joy to drink.

2024 Tierhoek Chardonnay, W.O. Piekenierskloof

The 2024 Tierhoek Chardonnay is made in collaboration with Hamilton Russell winemaker Emul Ross and is the first non Hamilton Russell wine to be made in the cellars (we think).  Produced from 20 year old vines that are starting to show their true potential, this fabulous Chardonnay is fermented in a mixture of seasoned French oak and terracotta eggs, before being transferred into barrel and amphora for ageing.

Patrick Vauvy harvests his Touraine Sauvignon grapes later than most other producers in the region which helps to give his wines a little more opulance than some.  This lovely Touraine Sauvignon has attractive aromatics showing some richness of fruit. The nose has an abundance of exotic fruits and just a hint of mint. The palate is fresh and tangy with a moreish finish.

Crisp, fresh and wonderfully approachable, this certified Organic Trebbiano from the beautiful Abruzzo region of Italy is a terrific new find for us.  Bright and concentrated with citrus tinged floral aromas on the nose leading to a well-balanced palate packed with pear and apple fruit and a faint saline edge to the finish.  Thirst quenching and more'ish, this provides terrific year round drinking and is an especially good match to shellfish.

2024 Vermentino di Sardegna Notteri, Cantina Castiadas

Vermentino

The Notteri is a terrific example of Vermentino di Sardegna. Made with free run juice that is fermented at cool temperatures before resting on it's fine lees for 60 days.  The result is a wine which shows an intense nose that is fresh with stone fruit and floral notes.  The palate is soft and dry with more intensity and finishing on a pleasing bitter note.  This elegant white is a terrific wine to be enjoyed with seafood, especially shellfish, and lighter mediterranean starters.
