Description

Michele Satta is one of the founding fathers of the Bolgheri DOC alongside Tenuta San Guido, Antinori and Ornelleia.  However, unlike the more famous names and despite the meteoric rise of the region they have remained a boutique, terroir driven winery that produces some of the best value fine wines in Italy.  Satta concentrate more on mediterranean varieties with Sangiovese and Syrah taking the lead on their wines with smaller proportions of Cabernet and Merlot.  The Bolgheri Rosso is a delightful blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet supported by Merlot, Syrah and a dash of Teroldego giving a wine that is vibrant and juicy with dark cherry, sweet spice and hints of mocha.  Classy and understated, this is such a joy to drink and brings all the warmth of the Tuscan coast in a glass.

The Bolgheri Rosso comes from densely planted vineyards which naturally curtail the vigour of the vine.  After a manual harvest, the perfectly ripe grapes are fermented with natural yeasts and receive regular punching down.  Following fermentation the wine rests in barrel for 12 months with a further 6 months in bottle prior to release.

After separating the skins from the juice it is aged in stainless steel tanks for a minimum of 15 months.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!
