The harvest was lavish with good maturity with the wines showing a lot of fruit and body with good ageing potential.  The Bardos Reserva is a bold Ribera del Duero that is well-structured yet  smooth, with an intense cherry red colour with shades of violet and purple tinges.  On the nose there is a great aromatic intensity with mature dark fruits, chocolate, spices and smoky aromas. Chateau Fontestau 2.JPG

2016 chateau fontestau, cru bourgeois medoc

Bordeaux Blend

Located in the centre of the Médoc peninsula, the superb Cru Bourgeois wine estate of Chateau Fontesteau stretches over a remarkable natural landscape. The thirteenth century castle nestles like a precious jewel encased in a magical landscape, with its forest boasting one-hundred-year-old oak trees surrounded by pines with a charming little lake. The Fontesteau vineyards, a large proportion of which are situated in Pauillac, has been using integrated agricultural methods for the last 30 years, exploiting the plants’ natural defence system and avoiding where possible the use of synthetic products to protect the vineyard. It's now certified as a Sustainable Vineyard. This 2016 vintage provided Fontestau with a perfectly healthy crop and there wasn't any need to add sulphur treatments in the vineyard or the winery.  It boasts a very rich garnet colour with an expressive nose showing jammy aromas of red fruit such as cherry and strawberry. The palate is ample and full-bodied with a tense, fresh structure. The tannins are rich and tasty, conferring flavour and length to the wine. This is a remarkably balanced vintage with a real force of character.

Chateau Saransot Dupre Rouge.JPG

2016 chateau saransot-dupre, listrac medoc

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!

Lledoner Pelut Colombette.JPG

2016 lledoner pelut colombette, domaine la colombette

Lledoner Pelut

We are massive fans of the wines from Domaine La Colombette.  It all began in 1890 when Louis Pugibet a blacksmith, fell in love with a winemaker and she gave him his first hectare as a gift for the marriage. Four generations later Francois and son Vincent work side by side creating exciting wines. Colombette are pioneers in the region and are at the forefront of exploring and developing new techniques with disease resistant grape varieties as well as continuing to produce outstanding wines from known varieties.  They produce a wide range of styles and whilst all teh wines are distinctive they posess a common thread of having restrained alcohol levels without compromising on fruit or body.

Tempranillo

In 1970 Luis Cañas changed two hundred years of tradition and became the first winemaker in Rioja Alavesa to bottle his young wine rather than sell it in bulk. This bold move, and his continued pioneering spirit, has cemented the winery's enviable reputation as one of the most progressive in the region. Sheltered below the watchful Sierra Cantabria, the vineyards are all old, small plots on chalky-clay soils with a dedicated team of vineyard workers carrying out organic practices.
