Mencia

Can do Sil is a wonderfully fresh, fruit led blend of Garnacha and Mencia produced from lightly macerated fruit from young vines. The ferment is made in stainless steel and the wine bottled after the spring equinox. It is a lightfooted, violet and blackberry infused wine with elements of mineral coolness. A refreshingly breezy and bright Spanish red with notes of sour cherry, raspberry, violets and sweet spice. It's unoaked and very drinkable.

Sanchez Romate are a small'ish sized Bodega that produce wonderfully complex sherries that are xcellent examples of their type.  The Cardenal Cisneros PX is an amazing, naturally sweet wine which has a fantastic, deep mahogany colour and typically rich and velvety texture.  The intense palate and nose has an abundance of figs, dried fruit and raisins alongside chocolate and coffee.  The wine is dense and unctuous yet posesses a really clean and balanced vein of acidity that keeps it fresh on the amazingly long finish.

Sitting a mere 20km from the Atlantic, the Cabana das Bolboretas is a boutique vineyard that benefits from the cooling influence of the ocean.  This surprising sparkling wine is made from 100% Albarino harvested in 2015 and is made by he traditional method with a second fermentation in bottle.  The wine spends 26 months onlees and is classified as Extra Brut with 3-6 g/l of residual sugar.

Luis XIV Vermut Rojo, Fondillon

The fabulous Luis XIV Vermut Rojo is a blend of 70% young Vermut made from a base of Macabeo that has been macerated with traditional botanicals including wormwood and also a secret blend of cinnamon, cloves vanilla and orange peel.  This is blended with 30% Monastrell which has been aged oxidatively for 8 years, with a further two months in ancient Fondillon barrels.  The Monastrell gives the Vermut a wonderful garnet colour and adds richness to the wine.  Rich, with balanced notes of herbs and spice witha bit more body than other styles, this terrific Vermut is delicious with ice and a slice of orange peel.  It also comes in a quirky bottle which not only looks great but has stencilled writing that glows in the dark!

The tiny plots of vines that make up the Mil Demonios Semillon/Sauvignon blend are microvinified in Amphora and then aged in tight grained oak prior to release.  This terrific white is precise and focussed with a wonderful vein of acidity running from start to finish.  The mid-palate shows a lovely weight to it that suggests the wine will age further and gain complexity as it does so.

The Moscatel Do Douro 5 Anos, Niepoort is characterised by its unmistakable Muscat aromas, with floral and citrussy notes with hints of nuts, spice and honey adding further complexity. Following many ultra-successful vintage releases, the Langham Blanc de Blancs has switched to a non vintage blend following the 2018 vintage.  Made with 100% Chardonnay, 90% of which is from the 2020 vintage, and aged on the lees for three years, this is an energetic and wonderfully focussed Blanc de Blancs. The nose displays a tense balance between ripe green apple and conference pear with notes of white flowers and intense graphite minerality. The palate is delicate yet weighty in texture, with soft ripe pear, honeydew melon and white grapefruit acidity, finishing with a trademark saline nuttiness.

NV Brut 204, Champagne Lete Vautrain, Marne

Champagne Blend

The grapes for the Lete Vautrain Brut 204 are harvested by hand and sorted prior to fermentation at a cool temperature, and ageing on lees takes place for a minimum of 36 months.  The wine shows a lovely deep golden hue in the glass with apple, peach and apricot fruit complemented by dried fruits and classic biscuity notes.  A well balanced, complex and rounded Champagne that is the perfect aperitif style.
