Clever oak use, reminiscent of toasted nuts, meets restrained flavors of lemon and lime bitter and nectarine fruit. A wine that's still in its cocoon so give it time. The Las Estelas Chardonnay is another beautiful wine from the hugely talented Estela Perinetti.  Made with Burgundian clones grown at 1380 metres above sea level in the cold Finca Valmore single vineyard, the grapes for this wine are hand harvested and de-stemmed, with 5% fermented as whole bunches. All grapes are barrel fermented with natural yeast in a combination of new and second use French oak and 70% of the wine goes through malolactic, allowing freshness to be retained. The wine is then aged in a mixture of new and used oak as well as ceramic barrels (25%).

The concentration and density of Mate’s Vineyard shines through in this wine even though the 2023 vintage was lighter with a moderate alcohol of 12.5%. No new oak was used in the vinification due to the lighter yields but there was a high proportion of 1 & 2 year old barrels which means the oak feel to this wine is similar to other vintages The vine age of Mate’s Vineyard, now 33 years, contributes to the inherent quality and reputation of this wine and we are confident that bottle age of up to ten years will be beneficial.

Superb value, the Scheid District 7 Chardonnay comes from a vineyard at Greenfeld where the morning fog lingers to protect the vines from the heat of the sun. The aromas are fresh and extroverted with notes of yellow apple, pear and citrus, enhanced by hints of coconut, vanilla and toasty oak. The medium-bodied palate is soft and balanced with bright fruit, hints of butter and a lingering subtle oak finish.

2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Domaine Fournillon

The crisp, fresh Bourgogne Chardonnay from Domaine Fournillon comes from vineyards close to Chablis and shares similar characteristics with citrus and mineral tinged fruit. There is some decent weight in the mid-palate with a creaminess to the texture, but no oak was harmed in the making of this wine.  Sophisticated, very drinkable and great value.
