2023 Bandol Blanc, La Bastide Blanche, AC Bandol

White Blend

When white Bandol is as good as this it's difficult to see why they don't get as much attention as the Rosés. The Bastide Blanche Bandol Blanc is a terrific blend of  Clairette (58%), Ugni Blanc (22%), Bourboulenc (12%) & Rolle (8%) is packed with white peach and fresh herb characters on the nose. The complex palate is multi-layered and textured yet fresh, finishing with a distinct saline tang.  This cracking wine shows a beautiful balance of power and elegance and should be on the 'must try' list of every adventurous drinker.

2023 Bel a Ciao Vin Orange, IGP Atlantique

Semillon/Sauvignon

It's Bordeaux Jim, but not as we know it! Outlandish winemaker Olivier Cazenave likes to do things a little differently and this Orange Bordeaux is testament to that.  Made with predominantly Semillon that spends two weeks on skins before being run off by gravity into a seperate tank for a further 6 months at 5 degrees Celcius until bottling.  A tiny amount of traditionally fermented Sauvignon and Muscadelle is added to add freshness and a floral edge.  No sulphur was used at harvest and is only used in the bottling process when absolutely necessary.

2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Domaine Fournillon

Chardonnay

The crisp, fresh Bourgogne Chardonnay from Domaine Fournillon comes from vineyards close to Chablis and shares similar characteristics with citrus and mineral tinged fruit. There is some decent weight in the mid-palate with a creaminess to the texture, but no oak was harmed in the making of this wine.  Sophisticated, very drinkable and great value.

2023 Bourgogne Cote d’Or ‘Les Parties’, Domaine Meunier

Described by Gaelle Meunier as a 'Petit Puligny', the Les Parties is a delectable white burgundy that balances richness and depth with freshness and elegance.  The majority of the vines lie within Puligny itself and 50% of the wine is oaked, 30% of which is new, with the remainder fermented and raised in stainless steel.  Elegance and precision best describe this delightful wine.

The Etna Bianco from Pietradolce is made with Carricante grapes grown 800 metres above sea level on teh volcanic slopes of Mount Etna.  It is an appealing soft straw yellow colour with lovely aromatics lifting the distinct racy minerality.  This is a terrific wine to try if you like Chablis.

The Geisha Dragon Del Desierto is an intriguing blend of mostly Viognier with some Marsanne and 10% Pedro Gimenez (Criolla Blanca as opposed to PX) that is co-fermented in a single concrete egg. Following fermentation, 90% of the wine remains 'sur lie' in the egg whilst the remaining 10% ages under flor in old barrels.  The result is a fascinating white wine that is beautifully textured yet fresh, with semi-exotic fruits such as melon and pineapple mingling with a touch of bready/yeasty complexity courtesy of the flor aged proportion.  Generous, textured and ultimately extremely drinkable, this lovely wine is one for the adventurous drinker.

This Alsace Gewurztraminer from Sophie Schaal is utterly delightful.  This expressive wine shows all the typical hallmarks of the grape with lychee, rose petal and turkish delight notes, yet is is wonderfully restrained and elegant showing impeccable balance.  The palate verges on rich with plenty of tropical fruits, ginger and slight spice kept in check with perfectly poised acidity.

The Hartenberg  Riesling is planted on clay-rich soils and harvested entirely by hand. With 25% of the grapes showing signs of Botrytis at harvest time, this wine boasts stone fruit aromas, honeyed petrol notes, lanolin and a vibrant acidity. The bouquet displays beautiful elements of chalky,flint and minerally notes.The wine is juicy and opulent on palate entry and then a fine acidity arrives to provide a perfect foil to the inherent fruit “sweetness”. Despite being bone dry,the wine finishes with an appealing sweet/sour character,begging a second taste.

The Heirloom White is yet another truly delicious South African blend based on Chenin Blanc.  We are massive fans of these wines here at DWC and would love everyone to get behind them.  45% Chenin Blanc, 40% Grenache Blanc and 15% Viognier, this complex wine shows dried tropical fruits, fresh stone fruit and citrus notes on the the palate.  The richly textured mouthfeel integrates elegant oak and lifting acidity through to the long lingering finish.

Not to be confused with Albarino from the North West of Spain, this white wine made from Albarin grapes grown at 950 metres above sea level in the stony soils of Castilla y Leon.  Impeccably balanced with complex mandarin, lime and baked peach notes, a gentle rounded mid palate and finishing with fresh, lively acidity on the long finish.

2023 Kloovenburg Sauvignon Blanc, Swartland

Sauvignon Blanc

The Kloovenburg Sauvignon was an instant hit here at The Dorset Wine Company.  We loved the freshness that lept from the glass but as the wine developed it also shows a great deal of elegance.  There's a restrained mix of citrus, gooseberry and tropical fruits and whilst it's a very expressive wine it's never overly pungent.  The finish is crisp and elegant.

The Kumeu Village Pinot Gris is an utterly delicious example of the grape.  Lively stone fruit and exotic notes on the nose and palate with a beautiful texture that adds weight without detracting from the purity and freshness of fruit.  This is lovely to drink on it's own but also a stellar match to a number of dishes, including spicy foods.

2023 Las Etelas Chardonnay, Finca Valmore, Tupungato

Chardonnay

The Las Estelas Chardonnay is another beautiful wine from the hugely talented Estela Perinetti.  Made with Burgundian clones grown at 1380 metres above sea level in the cold Finca Valmore single vineyard, the grapes for this wine are hand harvested and de-stemmed, with 5% fermented as whole bunches. All grapes are barrel fermented with natural yeast in a combination of new and second use French oak and 70% of the wine goes through malolactic, allowing freshness to be retained. The wine is then aged in a mixture of new and used oak as well as ceramic barrels (25%).
