2021 Lioco Mendocino Pinot Noir

The Lioco Mendocino Pinot Noir is made up of grapes from different vineyard sites in Mendocino. The vintage was characterised by drought resulting in concentrated grapes that packed bold fruit. Notes of black raspberry and violet mingle with fresher red fruits and wild coastal berries. Exuberant, open and a pure joy to drink, this delicious Pinot Noir is fermented in open top fermenters, with 10% whole bunch clusters, and regular punch downs over two weeks. Following fermentation the wine is then aged in a mixture of Neutral French oak and steel for 8 months.

Until recently Massaya’s vineyards have solely been located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level. However, over the last seven years Sami and Ramzi together with Frédéric and Daniel Brunier, have developed Massaya vineyards in the more extreme, mineral areas of the Bekaa valley, moving onto hillside sites to the North East (Ras Baalbek) and North West (Hadath Baalbek), as well as further north of Baalbek.

The CVNE Monopole Classico Rioja Blanco is a truly unique style of white Rioja that was brought back into production in 2014 to celebrate the centenary of the CVNE brand. 100% Viura with a small amount of Manzanilla added to the barrels which adds a saline complexity to the vibrant Viura fruit. Straw yellow in colour with slight golden hints. The complex nose shows scents of pear, apple, white currant and white flowers underpinned by slightly spicy dried fruits. On the palate there is salinity (Manzanilla influence) and an elegant acidity which provide freshness, on the long, thirst quenching finish.

The wine remains on it's skins for 6 months following the fermentation and as a result shows incredible concentration and a beautiful weight balanced with aromatic, ripe stone fruit characters, notably apricot and peach. There is some tannic structure too making this a superb match to both eastern mediterranean cuisine (take note Ottolenghi fans), and also spicier Asian dishes.

2021 Pourquoi Faire Sans Blanc?, Domaine Serol, Vin de France
Chenin Blanc
Following a disastrous harvest in France many producers looked for parcels of fruit which they could make wine from in order to have something to sell from the 2021 vintage. Domaine Serol have a small vineyard of Chenin Blanc grapes on the highest part of their estate, grown on granite soils. This is a deliciously refreshing white with a core of ripe honeyed, citrus fruit that is just starting to open up. The finish is super clean with thirst quenching acidity on the long balanced finish. Drinking beautifully now, especially with food, this will continue to develop for a few years from vintage.

2021 Puligny Montrachet, Domaine Meunier
Chardonnay
The grapes for this approachable Puligny are hand harvested and undergo a gentle pressing. The juice is then left to settle for a few days then put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation and the wine spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled. Great persistence in the mouth, this wine has a wonderful freshness to it and can be enjoyed in it's youth.
