Description
Newfound Wines, a small family owned winery located in the Sierra Foothills was established in 2016 and is the very essence of ‘New California’. Matt and Audra were intent on intent on producing wine in the most sustainable way possible and tore out the existing vineyard that they purchased. Amongst the mesaures they took was to enlist the help of 200 goats to graze the hillsides and to naturally compost the site, as well as creating a fire safe zone by lifting the densely forested canopy and cover cropped with a recipe of legumes, clovers and nitrogen fixing green manures.
Newfound has come to define Matt & Audra’s farming dream to become first generation grape growers and wine producers while also supporting several grape growers who they source additional grapes from who share their same set of convictions.
Each component of the Gravels blend was fermented entirely with whole clusters. The grapes were trodden by foot upon arrival at the winery then placed in open top tanks where fermentation took place with natural yeasts. Very little SO2 was used just prior to bottling.
The wine is a beguiling mix of savoury herbs, chalk, rose water and tart raspberry. The palate is linear and assertive with distinct tannin yet elegant framework.

2022 Lirac Rouge Cuvee Elie, Domaine La Loyanne
Rhone Blend
This relatively young family owned Domaine was created in 2001 by vignerons with 4 generations of vinegrowing and winemaking expertise under their belts. They own some seriously old vines in superb sites in the Southern Rhone on a mixture of soils of red sand, clay and the classic 'Galet' pebbles associated with Chateauneuf du Pape. As a result, their wines posess a wonderful depth and concentration.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum
Bordeaux Blend
Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac. Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness. Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'. High praise indeed!
