The Tokara Reserve Chardonnay has aromas of lemon curd, honeysuckle, oatmeal and toasted brioche which leap from the glass. There are plenty of bold, ripe yellow citrus fruit flavours initially on the palate, which lead to a creamy mid-palate with subtle vanilla, star anise and toasted almond. There is a continuous saline focus and feeling of freshness throughout. A wine of restrained power and finesse.

Chenin Blanc
The 2021 Cartology is made from 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Semillon from old, dry farmed bush vines. Following careful selection by hand the grapes are whole bunch pressed and lightly settled with no addititions to the natural juice. Wild yeast fermentation takes pace in a mixture of concrete eggs, clay pots and old barrels of various sizes, lasting anywhere between 3 weeks and 11 months. The wine is then aged on it' lees in tank for roughly 12 months with a further 6 months to settler in tank prior to bottling.

The bouquet displays beautiful elements of chalky,flint and minerally notes.The wine is juicy and opulent on palate entry and then a fine acidity arrives to provide a perfect foil to the inherent fruit “sweetness”. Despite being bone dry,the wine finishes with an appealing sweet/sour character,begging a second taste.

Although very approachable in it's youth, the Beaumont Chenin, as with many other good South African Chenin Blancs, has teh ability to age for many years. It's a great value wine to stock up on and see how it develops.

White Blend
The Eight Feet White from Kloovenburg has an elegant nose with a mixture of white flowers, citrus and spice which leads to a generous, richly textured palate and fine, balanced finish. This wonderful white is a blend of hand picked Chenin, Verdelho, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne harvested at different times to enable the final blend to have a balance of freshness, complexity and vitality. Made with free run juice the fermentation process is natural, often taking up to 3 months. The wine spends 10 months on it's fine lees in barrel with regular battonage (to promote texture), before final blending and bottling. The absence of malolactic fermentation means that the wine retains freshness and acidity despite it's time in barrel.

The 2023 Tierhoek Chardonnay is made in collaboration with Cape superstar winemaker Chris Williams, and marks the resurrection of this special wine growing estate. Produced from 20 year old vines that are starting to show their true potential, this fabulous Chardonnay is fermented in a mixture of seasoned French oak and terracotta eggs, before being transferred into barrel and amphora for ageing. At the time of writing, this is a one off collaboration, (with the 2024 being made at Hamilton Russell), and therefore destined to become a piece of history and a collectors item. The wine itself displays the quality of the fruit obtained from these mountain vineyards and also the winemaking style of Chris Williams, whose stints at Delaire, Meerlust and other notable wineries, has earned him an enviable reputation as one of the Cape's finest winemakers.
