Red Blend

The 2024 Secateurs Red Blend by AA Badenhorst has to be amongst the best he's made.  Adi bought a neighbouring farm that he used to buy grapes from but now has pick of the crop for himself.  There's a hgher proportion of Cabernet in this release than usual, adding more cassis and dark fruit flavours to the mineral tinged spice of the Shiraz. Fuller than normal too, but by no means less approachable, with juicy tannins and terrific balance.

Nero d'Avola

The Sensale Nero d'Avola has an intense ruby red colour, with broad and complex aromas of red fruits and red berries on the nose.  The nicely structured palate is rounded and mid weight with lovely clean fruit and good balance on the finish.

The Hancock and Hancock Shiraz/Grenache blend is made in a beautifully restrained and supple style.  There's plenty of ripe dark plum fruit, pepper and spice courtesy of the Shiraz with the rose petal perfume and red cherry flavours of Grenache. Well balanced through to the finish, this drinks really well now, but will cellar nicely for 5 years or so.

The Sierra Enmedio Garnacha is packed with juicy, vibrant berry fruit, whiffs of spice and more exotic notes of pomegranate and fresh strawberry.  The palate is generous and fruit led with a little more spice and lovely fresh acidity.  Great for barbeques and roasted meats yet juicy enough to enjoy on it's own.

The Kloovenburg Village Red is a juicy, approachable blend of 59% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 14% Garnacha Peluda and 5% Mouvedre made by the talented Duncan Stuart.  Slight hints of oak compliment the bramble, strawberry and white pepper notes.  Terrific value, this is a must try for any Rhone Ranger looking to dip their toes in the sea of South African wines.
