Description

The Mompirone Barbera d’Asti Superiore is the big brother to the delicious, and ever popular, Campolungo.  Showing dark fruits, vanilla and cocoa on the nose, with a palate packed with a mix of dark fruits and hints of spice, managing to be delicate, complex and inviting.  This versatile food wine pairs very well with game and rich stewsas well as grilled meats.

Cascina Vengore sits in a natural amphitheatre that used to be a Roman Estate.  Established in 2012 by young vigneron Lucrezia Povero, this fully certified organic estate makes wines with purity, freshness and a true sense of place.  The Cascina Vengore wines have a different style to the terrific value offerings from Cantine Povero (the family estate, and one of our favourite producers), and are well worth exploring.

2022 Gonzo Combat Rouge, Vandal Wine Company

Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!

2024 Cotes Du Rhone, Un Bon Canon

Rhone Blend

The Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone hits the spot every time with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks.  The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles.  The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.
