Nebbiolo

The Cabanè Langhe from Cantine Povero is a unique velvety wine, which blends the full body of Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruity notes of Barbera, and the elegance, complexity and rich bouquet of Nebbiolo. The is the first wine from Povero that included international grapes in the blend and was created so the winemaker could express the power of these varietals.

2020 Sito Moresco Langhe, Gaja

Red Blend

The fabulous Sito Moresco is a blend of 60% Nebbiolo and 40% Barbera grown on predominantly Limestone soils.  The wine is fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and oak and strikes a refreshing balance between ageworthyness and approachability.  In the glass the wine is a lovely bright ruby colour, whilst the nose is open with violet, mulberry and fresh spice aromas. The palate opens with crunchy red fruits and aromas of red plum and red cherry intermingled with a more savoury note which leads to a long, mineral tinged finish with well-intergrated tannins.  All in all this is a wonderfully harmonious, fresh and rounded wine that is full of charm and approachable now and utterly delicious with roasted red meats, casseroles and stews.

2023 Barbera ‘Monte Luzzo’, Cantine Povero, 3 Litre BIB

The Monte Luzzo Barbera is another fabulous wine from the fantastic Cantine Povero.  A wonderfully clean and pure expression of the grape with fresh cherry, plum and wild berry fruit mingled with hints of violets on the nose along with notes of spice.  The palate is beautifully rounded and fresh with an abundance of quaffable fruit.  The wine spends 6 months in oak to add texture and roundness rather than imparting oaky characteristics.

This classic Barbera is aged in stainless steel tanks, allowing the primary aromas of the varietal to shine through, including fruity notes such as cherry, orange peel, plum, and berries, all backed up by violet and elderberry floral notes.  Soft tannins and the marked acidity make this charming little wine a very versatile wine when it comes to food matching.
