Description

Cantine Povero are a fabulous, sustainably minded property located in the heart of Piedmont, where Langhe meets Roero and Monferrato, with 35 hectares of vines under conversion to organic status.  We stock a range of wines which represent excellent value examples of their type, whether it’s the delicately floral Moscato d’Asti or award winning Barbaresco and Barolo, the wines always hit the spot for authenticity and pure drinking pleasure.

This cracking Barolo has a typical garnet red colour, with complex aromas of violet and rose with cinamon hints. On the palate, the fruit character is laid back yet powerful and textured with well-balanced tannins on the long finish.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!

Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.

Fermentation takes place at a warm 27/28 degrees centigrade and maturation follows until March when the wine is bottled. An intense, purple colour. Fruity aromas dominated by fragrant raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. Round, supple and rich yet balanced by a lingering freshness on the finish.

Vandal Combat Rouge Field Blend.JPG

2022 Gonzo Combat Rouge, Vandal Wine Company

Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.
