Description

The ’14 Chasse-Spleen is a wonderfully refined wine which is just starting to hit its stride, although will continue to evolve and drink superbly into the early 2030’s.  The nose shows lots of dark fruits along with a fresher blueberry character mixed with black pepper and cedar spice.  The palate shows layers of blackberry fruit and terrific oak integration.  The finish is long and fresh with plenty of depth.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot & 5% Petit Verdot

“A very elegant, fresh and classical wine with a lot of energy and drive on the finish, which has a real mineral character. Great aging potential. Needs three years to soften. Real Chasse-Spleen here!”

93 Points James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2017

Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.

Moulin Camus Gamay.JPG

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire

Gamay

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality.  A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.

Sangiovese

Gaja's Brunello di Montalcino shows notes of juniper berries, liquorice and sweet wood on the nose. It has a very clear expression of sweet and ripe fruit, opening on the palate, with notes of spice and earthy aromatic herbs. This wine has remarkable texture, mouth-filling fruit and a very good length.
