Description

“The 2009 Coutet has a very intense nose of apricot, papaya, honeysuckle and orange cordial that is very well defined. Interestingly I write the same comment as my appraisal out of barrel in that I would prefer just a little more vigor. However that is a minor quibble. The palate is very well- balanced with a rounded, caressing entry. There is certainly tremendous weight in the mouth and abundant botrytis, especially upon the unctuous finish. This has great potential — a fantastic wine from one of the finest Barsac estates. Drink now-2035+.” Neal Martin, 2013.

“Tasted blind. Deep gold. Very big and massive and yet fresh, with enormous weight but tension too. Almost hot! Dense.” – 18/20 Jancis Robinson, tasting in March 2019.

Brachetto

The history of the Brachetto is steeped in legend and fascination. An antique drink that was mentioned for the first time during the Roman empire when writers described the customs of the ‘Gallia Cisalpina’ (Gaul, on this side of the Alpes), speaking of a sweet aromatic wine of Acqui Terme, very appreciated by the patricians.

2021 Carte d’Or, Baumard, AC Coteaux du Layon, Half Bottle

Chenin Blanc

The Carte d'Or Coteaux du Layon from Baumard has a very attractive honeyed nose, with lifted yellow fruits and more golden tropical elements such as mango, guava and pineapple. It has a particularly tropical character and a very fresh feel on the palate, with steely minerality and a zippy background acidity giving invigorating tartness to keep the wine luscious and buoyant. The rounded, approachable finish has good length.

2021 Monbazillac ‘Jour de Fruit’ Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure

Semillon

The Domaine de l'Ancienne Cure Monbazillac is an aromatic and complex dessert wine that is blended from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle and is among the best of the region. It's a rich, sweet 'liquoreux' wine with aromas of dried fruit and honey. It can be drunk as an apéritif or with blue cheese or fruit desserts. Christian Roche is one of the best producers in Monbazillac. Good alternative to Sauternes, botrytis affected (Noble Rot) Semillon, and is aged in new oak. Hints of sherbet and boiled sweets with a long complex finish.
